Shores Village Historic Preservation Board was held on Monday, April 20, 1987 at 7:30 P.M.. The meeting was called to order. by Margo. Newton, Chairman, with the following members present: Margo Newton, Chairman Hank,D. Gaggstatter Vivian D. Rodriguez Absent: Hank Courtney and Addea Colangelo 2... MINUTES - March 16, 1987 Two typographical errowa were corrected under.#4,.paragraph 2 (was & loses). #5, A. - She was. changed to identify Margo Newton. Mr. Gaggstatter moved to.approve..the minutes, as corrected, seconded by Mrs. Rodriguez, and passed unanimously. 3. LANDMARKS - REPORTS Mrs. Rodriguez reported that in checking 107 N. E. 96th St., she has verified there is no plaque on the house. At 262.N. E. 96th St., Mr. Gaggstatter reported that. owner Nell Alexander refuses to sign the Convenant because the front yard tree is not original landscape. Ms. Newton indicated that she was advised by Mr. Fann, Village Attorney that she can modify the Covenant, deleting the landscape portion. She further stated that she will prepare a Covenant accordingly, and Mr. Gaggstatter agreed to again talk with Ns. Alexander in hopes that she will sign a modified Covenant. Ms. Newton reported that Debbie. Schneider of 152 N. E. 92nd St. has her house for sale; and is strongly opposed to signing a Covenant. There is a plaque on the house. An attempt will be made to encourage new owners to sign once itis sold. Ms. Newton also reported that. Anthony R. Pierro is the new owner. at 121 N. E. 100th St.. He has a set of the original plans for the house, and is doing considerable restoration changes. Further -.Mr. Pierro has indicated that he is interested in signing the Covenant. Regarding 361 N. E. 101st St., Ms. Newton reported she has been unable to talk with Ms. Leemburg. Also, she reported 29 N. E. 91st St. has been sold and the new owners are Steven and Christine Krause. • HISTORIC PRESERVATION. BOARD. -2- 4/20/87 In response to query from Mrs. Rodriguez, Ms. Newton responded she had not had time to discuss with Mr. Forney, concerning authority to remove plaques where owner has refused to sign the Covenant, but she will do so. 4. GRANT Ms. Newton reported.:that she has contacted Professional Consultants. re- questing they submit proposals and will place -an adin the Miami Review this week for a Consultant. This. Consultant will be supervising the research and writings.of nomination proposal. for the National Register. 5. REQUEST FOR APPROVAL OF CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS Mrs. O. B. Simmons 257 N. E. 91st St. A Certificate of Appropriateness for 257 N. E. 91st St. was presented by Ms. Newton for approval. Mrs._ Simmons needs to replace a leaking roof; work to be done by Walter Scott Roofing & Repair Inc.. The full 35 squares will be replaced with clay barrel tile. Hank Gaggstatter moved to approve the request., seconded by Vivian Rodriguez, and passed unanimously. Ms. Newton noted that she will try to go by tomorrow when the old roof will be removed, to salvage some of the old tiles. 6. REPORTS, COMMENTS,ANNOUNCEMENTS A. On Firday, April 10, 1987 Mrs. Rodriguez attended a Conference in Boca Raton at the Boca Raton Town Hall, designed by .Architect, Addison Mizner. Both the place and the speakers were most interesting. A luncheon was held at the Boca Raton Club also designed. by Addison Mizner and Kiehnel & Elliott. B. Mrs. Rodriguez also attended the Miami Design Preservation League Annual Luncheon Meeting. Guest speaker, Andres Duany especially emphasized the complacency of those working in areas of preservation. Members must be knowledgeable of :their .jobs relating to Historic Preservation. C. Discussion ensued concerning a package being puttogether on the Freedom Tower by Gerry Sanchez. The -comment was made that this project should receive the support of this Board, and each.individual Member. D. Mr. Gaggstatter announced that his firm is working on a plan to install a fire sprinkler system at the Breakers in West.Palm Beach; with- out destroying the ceilings, E. Ms. Newton announced .the Dade Heritage Trust Annual Dinner will be held at the Park Central Hotel on Miami Beach this Thursday, April 23rd. Cocktail hour is 6-7 P.M., and dinner at 7:00 P.M.. F. Laura Young owner of the Spear -Harris House attended the meeting, she was introduced by Margo Newton. Mrs. Young,reported they have done much work on restoring the house at 287 N. E. 96th St., and have much more to do. It is a unique house which was purchased with furnishings, and they are having: the furniture restored, and cataloguing historical paper found in the house, A most interesting and time consuming undertaking.
