08-18-1986 Regular Meeting• • • Miami cJhores9illage F L OR ID A HISTORIC PRESERVATION BOARD August 18, 1986 A regular meeting of the Miami Shores Historic Preservation Board was held on Monday, August 18, 1986. The meeting was called to order by Margo Newton at 7:30 P.M. at Miami Shores Village Hall, with the following Members present: Margo Newton, Chairman Henry T. Courtney H. D. Gaggstatter, Jr. Absent: Addea Colangelo Vivian D. Rodriguez 2. MINUTES - May 19, 1986 Because of the absence of persons who were present at the meeting of May 19, 1986, approval of the.minutes was tabled to the next meeting. 3. GRANT-IN-AID APPLICATION State funds for Grant-in-aid are available again this year. Margo will send in application before the September 15th deadline. 4. MIAMI SHORES ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Since the Miami Shores Elementary School is a Robert Law Weed design, and since the school is not allowed to accept full Landmark status, discussion ensued concerning some change of windows and the possibility of restoring same. It was determined that Mr. Courtney will contact Della Zaher, Principal of the School to determine why the change to blackout type windows, and if anything can be done to restore. 5. FLORIDA TRUST FOR HISTORIC PRESERVATION Annual Meeting - September 25-27 Since this azhnual meeting of the Florida Trust will be held in Fort Lauderdale this year it is hoped that we will have a favorable attendance from our Board. The Meeting will be held at the Riverside Hotel. Agenda and brochure are forthcoming. Ms. Newton announced that it will be beneficial and informative time and perhaps several members could ride up together for at least oneof the two days. 6. NATIONAL TRUST FOR HISTORIC PRESERVATION Annual Conference - October 15-19, 1986 This Conference will be held in Kansas City. Ms. Newton will attend and will bring back all pertinent information. • • Historic Preservation Board -2- Aug. 18, 1986 7. COMMENTS, REPORTS, ANNOUNCEMENTS A. Mr. Gaggstatter reported that he received a call in June from Barry Asmus, 515 N. E. 101st ST. a Historic Landmark. Mr. Asmus requested permission to change out some double hung windows and a door with casement. Members polled by phone, by Mr. Gaggstatter agreed this would be an improve- ment. Mr. Asmus was then advised of the procedure for filing an application for Certificate of Appropriatness for approval. B. Mr. Gaggstatter also received a request from Claudia and Daniel Aulton, 310 N. E. 99th St., to replace a present canvas awning with a barrel tile roof.. The Members he polled, agreed to the change as did the Planning & Zoning Board. Application for a Certificate of Appropriatness was properly executed. C. Margo Newton reported that the Blackwell house, 361 N. E. 97th St. has been sold to a young couple, both architects, who are interested in preservation. D. Ms. Newton further reported that 35.2 N. E. 98th St., the Reeder house has been sold and the new owner is interested in Landmark designation. E. Ms. Newton stated that she has Membership forms for Dade Heritage Trust, fee is $25.00 well spent. Information is supplied which keeps Members tuned in to what is going on in the County historically. The meeting adjourned at 8:00 P.M.
