02-24-1986 Regular Meetinge• 110 Miami Jhores9fllage L O R 1 D q HISTORIC PRESERVATION BOARD February 24, 1986 A regular meeting of the Miami Shores Historic Preservation Board was held on Monday, February 24, 1986. The meeting was called to order by Margo Newton, at 7:40 p.m., at the Miami Shores Village Hall. Tie following members were present: Margo Newton, Chairman Henry T. Courtney H. D. Gaggstatter, Jr. Absent: Addea Colangelo Vivian Rodriguez 2. MINUTES Ms. Newton requested the following changes be made to the minutes: Pg 1, :15 - grant application for The Thematic Group Nomination Project. Pg 2, #7, paragraph 2 - replace Public. Hearing with Historic Preservation Board. Meeting. Pg 2, #7, paragraph 3 - Strike obtaining the site survey report. Pg 2, #7, paragraph 4 - Reverse the sentence to read: Mrs. Rodriguez agreed to withdraw the second, and Mr. Gaggstatter withdrew the motion. Mr. Courtney moved, to approve the minutes of the meeting of January:27, 1986, as amended, seconded by Mr. Gaggstatter, and passed unanimously. 3. THEMATIC GROUP NOMINATION REPORT Ms. Newton reported that the State Advisory Council for Historic Preservation Boards has approved a grant for $2,000.00 for the Thematic Group Nomination Project. The next step is to hire a consultant (probably -Ivan Rodriguez),. who will supervise research for nomination to the National Register. Brief discussion followed. 4. PROPERTY NOMINATED FOR DESIGNATION 61 N. E. 96th St. Ms. Newton announced the owner of this property is, Allen Cohen. She mailed a registered letter to Mr. Cohen, but has had no reply. Ms. Newton recommended the Board proceed with recommendation to Council. recommend Mr. Courtney moved to nominate this house for consideration as a Historic Landmark, seconded by Mr. Gaggstatter, and carried unanimously. HISTORIC PRESERVATION BOARD -2- 2/24/86 410 5. DADE HERITAGE DAYS Miami Shores selected April 26 & 27. Open House Tour is scheduled for Sunday, April 27th, in the afternoon. No buses will be provided. Individuals will provide their own transportation, tour will start at the Grand Concourse Apartments, where tickets will be available. 6. REVIEW OF VILLAGE SLIDES - HANK GAGGSTATTER It was decided to table this review for a time when all members of the Board could be present. 7. COMMENTS, REPORTS, ANNOUNCEMENTS 1. Ms. Newton attended the Dade Council of Historic Preservation Boards at the Miami Woman's Club. One interesting agenda item, is the developemnt of an information resource center, listing all Historic Landmarks in Dade County. There was also dis- cussion about the Center for Historic Homes. Ms. Newton read some of the advantages and focuses of the Center, which is sponsored by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. A resource list was distributed to those attending. 2. Florida Conference of Preservation Boards & Commission, the statewide organization to get Boards & Commissions together, for the purpose of excahnging information, schedules a Work- shop meeting for March 13, 1986 in Boca Raton. 3. Second Evening of History, planned for Friday, March 21, 1986, 7:30 p.m., at the home of Carl & Aida Fabian. Announcement has been made in the Village Hall News inviting the public<to attend. Invitations will be sent out and there will be a program. 4. Ms. Newton visited the Historic Museum of South Florida and reviewed original architectural drawings of Walter DeGarmo. Many of the drawings indicate that, they are in Miami Shores. They are identified as residence - numbered. with lot & Blk #, but not otherwise listing the address. Through this description, she hopes to coordinate the architectural drawing with the existing building, not yet identified as a Walter DeGarmo. The Fabian & Pedinielli homes, both on 96th St. are Walter DeGarmo houses. 5. In response to query, Ms. Newton replied that, beginning in March, she will extend an invitation to those who have not signed their Covenant, to hear their reasons.
