07-15-1985 Regular Meeting• • • aiami crhores91.IIage F L OR ID A HISTORIC PRESERVATION BOARD July 15, 1985 A regular meeting of the Miami Shores Historic Preservation Board was held on Monday, July 15., 1985. Inthe absence of Margo Newton, the meeting was called to order by Henry D. Gaggstatter, Jr., at 7:30 p.m. at the Miami Shores Village Hall. The following members were present: H. D. Gaggstatter, Jr., Acting Chairman Gregory Anderson Addea Colangelo Vivian D. Rodriguez Absent: Margo Newton Alsb present: Ivan Rodriguez, Site Survey Consultant Marty Stofik, Site Survey Grant Manager 2. MINUTES Mrs. Stofik requested changes to the minutes of the meeting of June 17, 1985. Pg. 1, Sec. 4, paragraph 1: Division of Archives, History & Records Management. Pg. 2, Sec. 7, paragraph 3: groups of buildings cannot be reported on a single site survey form. Pg 3, paragraph 2: as Historic Landmarks. Following these changes to the minutes, Mrs. Rodriguez moved the minutes be accepted as amended, seconded by Mrs. Colangelo and passed unanimously. 3. SITE SURVEY - FINAL REPORT Mrs. Stofik, explained to Members a color coded Site Survey Map showing all properties included on the final -Report. She pro- duced three sets of the completed individual Site file forms. One set for Public reference, one for the building filenfor each pro- perty listed, and the third set for use by Historic Preservation Board. Mrs. Stofik further noted that 226 completed Site Survey Forms were sent to Fred Gaske, Bureau of Historic Preservation, in Tallahassee, along with maps, a narrative history of Miami Shores, and other pertinent information. Mrs. Stofik also reported that, Mr. Forney has spoken with Mr. Gaske, and the grant has been approved for reimbursement. Mr. Rodriguez reported that Mike Zimny, Division of Archives, History & Records Management was extremely pleased and impressed with the volumn, quality, and organized professional manner in which the Site Survey was completed. • • • HISTORIC PRESERVATION BOARD -2- 7/15/85 4. COVENANTS - STATUS REPORT Mr. Gaggststter reported that, Nell Alexander is contemplating selling her house and not willing to sign the eonvenant at this time. However, she will discuss the matter further with Margo, when she returns. Mrs. Stofik reported that her covenant has been signed and registered with the Clerk of Records, Dade County Court. 5. COMMENTS, REPORTS, ANNOUNCEMENTS Mrs. Stofik reminded Members of the upcoming Florida Trust for Historic Preservation Annual Meeting, which will be held in Pensacola, September 12-14, 1985, and the National Trust for Historic Preservation, 39th Conference, October 9-13, 1985, Seattle, Wash. Mrs. Stofik then made the following six point, recommendations for the Board to consider: 1. Continue .with the designation of the individual sites, utilitizing the information compiled in the Survey. 2. Pursue the possibility of nominating a group of structures to the National Register as a thematic or multiple resource based on information in the Survey. 3. Look at the possibility of designating local Historic Districts in areas of high concentration. 4. Proceed withnomination of the Old Pump House, in spite of the lack of encouragement from Tallahassee. 5. Revisit the proposed designation of outstand- ing structures nominated but not designated for lack of owner consent. Finally, consider the feasibility of contacting the owners of all 226 properties, to let them know their homes are listed, and invite them to participate in the preservation program. Mr. Rodriguez reported that, Mike Zimny, in their conversation, also commented on the Grand Concourse Apartments, and the.good possibility that it will be nominated to the. National Register of Historic Places. The;Review Board hearing day is scheduled for Friday, August 23rd. Mr. Rodriguez further reported on Dick Johnson's willingness to donate from his collection, certain architectural drawings of Robert Law Weed to the Woodrow Wilson Architectural Archives. There is now need for a volunteer to catalog the works. A very worthwhile project for the Miami Shores Preservation Board to consider. It was determined that the.
