HISTORIC PRESERVATION BOARD
June 17, 1985
A regular meeting of the Miami Shores Village Historic Preservation
Board was held on Monday, June 17, 1985. The meeting was called to order by
Margo Newton, at 7:30 p.m., at the Miami Shores Village Hall. The following
members were present:

H. D. Gaggstatter, Jr.
Vivian D. Rodriguez
Addea Colangelo
Absent: Gregory Anderson
Also present: Ivan Rodriguez, Site Survey Consultant
Marty Stofik, Site Survey Grant Manager
2. Ms. Newton welcomed Vivian Donnell Rodriguez, and Addea Colangelo,
the two new members of the Board.
3. MINUTES
Mr. Gaggstatter called attention to an error in the minutes of the
meeting of April 22, 1985. On pg 2, 1st paragraph of Site Survey -
Progress Report, the word since 1940, should be before 1940.
Mr. Gaggstatter then moved the minutes of the meeting be approved
as corrected, seconded by Mrs. Rodriguez, and carried unanimously.
Ms. Newton acknowledged receipt of the minutes of the meeting of
May 20, 1985.
The minutes of the Workshop held on May 28, 1985 were approved as
written, by a motion made by Mr. Gaggstatter, seconded by
Mrs. Rodriguez, and passed unanimously.
4. HISTORIC REGISTER NOMINATION, GRAND CONCOURSE APARTMENTS
REPORT - MARTY STOFIK
Mrs. Stofik reported that the Nomination Proposal to the National
Register of Historic Places, for the Grand Concourse Apartments,
has been completed, and sent with map, approximately fifteen
History & Record photographs, and other pertinent information to the Division of
Management Archives,Ain Tallahassee. The next meeting of the review Board is
August 23, 1985.
Ms. Newton suggested that copies of the Nomination Proposal be made,
and given to each member of the Board.
She also reported that reaction to the Old Pump House Nomination
Proposal was not too favorable; however it will be resubmitted.

• 5. SITE SURVEY - PROGRESS REPORT

Ms. Newton reported that she and Mrs. Stofik have completed the
building file research. Ivan and Vivian Rodriguez, as well as
Mrs. Stofik have been involved in the field research.
Mr. Gaggstatter has conducted photography of the sites with vigor.
Gregory Anderson and Elaine Fisher have been working on the
Historical research. Addea Colangelo is keeping busy, typing the
information cards, with the help of Jackie Butler.
Mr. Gaggstatter reported that the owners at 1099 N. E. 91st TERR.
are interested in designation. Ms. Newton indicated that, she
will make contact with the owners.
Mr. Gaggstatter also expressed the need and advantage of an aerial
photograph map of Miami Shores to better identify properties. This
matter was discussed, Mr. Rodriguez will loan one from his office.
Mrs. Stofik gave a synopsis of the sites and structures researched
in the building files. 193 field. surveys have been completed, and
92 field surveys to be researched. 19 have been determined to be
non contributing.
6. COVENANTS - STATUS REPORT
Ms. Newton reported that she and the Secretary had mailed sixteen
Covenants to be recorded with the County Recorder. These have been
recorded and returned to us. Several Covenants from owners remain
outstanding, for various reason.
7. COMMENTS, REPORTS, ANNOUNCEMENTS
The following announcements were made by Ms. Newton:
Florida Trust for Historic Preservation Annual Meeting, will be held
in Pensacola, FL, September 12-14, 1985.
National Trust for Historic Preservation, 39th Conference, October
9th - 13th, 1985, in Seattle, Wash.
Ms. Newton also reported on Historic Preservation Day in Tallahassee,
May 14, 1985, which she attended with Mrs. Stofik. The workshop was
most interesting, and beneficial. Preservation Day, May 15th in
Tallahassee was at the old Capital Building, also a very informative
day.

Mr. Rodriguez advised members that blocky as a groupwannot be conaid
crcd for historic designation, as multiple listings are not accepted.
Mrs. Stofik replied that, this information on the Site Survey is for
information purposes only.
Bob Carr, the County Archaeologist will be coming to review Miami Shores
to determine the potential for archaeological study in the area, was
reported by Mrs. Stofik.

Mr. Rodriguez commented on his meeting today with Ms. Newton and
Richard Holberman and Dick Johnson, who has a collection of the
architectural drawings of Robert Law Weed. These drawings were
discussed and the possibility of using some by the Miami Shores
Historic Preservation Board to cross reference addresses and match
up with the architect.
Mr. Edward D. Harrigan, 26 N. E. 99th ST., inquired as to the status
of properties designated without owner consent. Ms. Newton indicated
that, no properties in Miami Shores have been designated 44r, Historic
Preservation without owner consent. as
Landmarks
Since Ms. Newton will be on vacation during the next meeting in July,
she appointed Mr. Gaggstatter to act as Chairman. The meeting is
scheduled for July 15th.
