07-09-2015 Budget Workshop Meeting• • • RESIDENT BUDGET WORKSHOP THURSDAY, JULY 9, 2015 COMMUNITY CENTER 6:30 PM Mayor Alice Burch called the workshop meeting to order at 6:35 PM with all members of the Council present. Also present was Village Manager, Tom Benton, Village Clerk, Barbara Estep, members of the Finance Department and the Department Heads. Mr. Benton provided highlights of the Fiscal Year 2015-2016 budget document including the General Fund Budget and the All Funds Budget. Mr. Benton indicated that included in the budget is funding for three new positions, a Building Department Clerk, a command staff member for the Police Department and a Public Works Assistant Director, funded for six months. Through the use of a power point presentation, Mr. Benton provided general information relating to the Villages revenue sources, the departmental budgets, personnel expenditures, capital projects and trend histories. Mr. Benton provided an example of a property tax bill to demonstrate the Village's share of the average household. Residents asked questions and spoke about police cameras, uniform bids, the Charter School funding and rent payment, the mobility study and capital projects and their priorities. In addition, funding the sewer project and the debt service tax charges were clarified. The Council was asked to consider two funding requests. One request was to fund the Fine Arts Commission at $8,000 for the new fiscal year rather than the current $7,000 included in the budget. The second item was to fund new holiday lights/decorations. In addition, it was requested that rather than spend funds on median renovation, those funds, along with additional payroll overtime funding be used to eradicate non-native and nuisance trees. As there were no more comments offered by the residents in attendance, Mayor Burch thanked everyone for their input and the meeting was adjourned at 8:12 PM. Barbara A.
