MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE
BUDGET HEARING — FISCAL YEAR 2011-2012
The Miami Shores Village Council held the first of two Public Hearings on the proposed Fiscal Year
2011-2012 Operating Budget on Tuesday, September 6, 2011. The Meeting was held in the Council
Chambers of Village Hall and was called to order at 6:30 PM with the following members present:

1) PRESENTATION AND DISCUSSION OF THE PROPOSED BUDGET AND PROPOSED
MILLAGE RATE (8.0000 AND 0.7855) FOR OPERATING AND DEBT SERVICE
RESPECTIVELY.
Mr. Benton stated the purpose of the Hearing, indicating that he and the Council had reviewed the
proposed budget with the various Department Heads during the budget workshop held July 12, 2011. Mr.
Benton advised that the Administration had presented a balanced budget with a proposed tax rate of
8.0000 mils.
2) A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL, MIAMI SHORES
VILLAGE, FLORIDA, ESTABLISHING TENTATIVE AD VALOREM TAX LEVIES
FOR GENERAL FUND AND OTHER FUNDS OF THE VILLAGE FOR THE FISCAL
YEAR BEGINNING OCTOBER 1, 2011; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
3) A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL, MIAMI SHORES
VILLAGE, FLORIDA, TENTATIVELY ADOPTING THE FISCAL YEAR 2011-2012
BUDGETS, SETTING THE TIME, DATE AND PLACE OF THE SECOND OF TWO
PUBLIC HEARINGS TO DISCUSS THE AD VALOREM TAX LEVIES AND
CORRESPONDING BUDGETS; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
Ms. Estep read the two resolutions into the record. Mayor McCoy opened the floor for the public hearing.
As no one present wished to speak on either resolution, Mayor McCoy closed the public hearing.
Councilman Davis moved to approve the resolution establishing tentative ad valorem tax levies for the
Village's funds. Vice Mayor Davis seconded the motion. Councilman Loffredo asked for clarification
regarding the increase over the roll -back rate. Finance Director, Holly Hugdahl, advised that the final
property assessment supplied by the County represents an increase over the roll -back rate and must be
reported as such. Mayor McCoy called for the vote which was unanimous in favor of the motion.
Councilman Davis then moved to approve the resolution tentatively adopting the fiscal year 2011-2012
budgets and setting the date and time for the second of two public hearings. Councilman Walters
seconded the motion and the vote was unanimous in favor of the motion.
4) ADJOURNMENT
The September 6, 2011 Budget Hearing was adjourned at 6:40 PM.
