The meeting was called to order at 7:30 PM, with the following individuals present: PRESENT: Herta Holly Steve Loffredo Hunt Davis Prospero Herrera JC Rodriguez ALSO PRESENT: Tom Benton, Village Manager Barbara Estep, Village Clerk CONSIDERATIONS 1) VILLAGE CLERK Barbara A. Estep A) APPROVAL OF THE FEBRUARY 3, 2009 COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES. Mr. Rodriguez moved to approve the February 3, 2009 Council Meeting Minutes. Mr. Herrera seconded the motion and the vote was unanimous in favor of the motion. B) APPROVAL OF THE 2009 ELECTION POLLWORKER LIST (ELECTION BOARD). Mr. Davis moved approval of the 2009 Election Poll Worker list. Mr. Herrera seconded the motion and the vote was unanimous in favor of the motion. 2) VILLAGE COUNCIL Prospero Herrera A) A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL TO SUPPORT THE EFFORTS OF THE GREATER MIAMI SHORES CHAMBER OF COMMERCE TO REVITALIZE THE MIAMI SHORES DOWNTOWN AREA AND SUPPORT THE NAME CHANGE TO THE "VILLAGE PLACE AT MIAMI SHORES". • • Ms. Estep read the caption of the Resolution into the record. Mr. Herrera introduced Chamber of Commerce members Rick Garcia and Delores Sukhde, and the Executive Director, Lew Soli. Ms. Sukhde, Mr. Garcia and Mr. Soli spoke of developing a new logo and name for the downtown area, to be called the Village Place at Miami Shores. The Chamber representatives expressed their belief that the new "branding" would help with marketing the downtown area as the roadway construction is nearing completion. Individual Council Members voiced their support of the Chamber's efforts. It was confirmed that the Village Place at Miami Shores would encompass N.E. 2nd Avenue, from N.E. 94th Street north to N.E. 101' Street. It was also confirmed that The Village Beautiful will continue to be used for the Village as a whole. Mr. Davis moved to adopt the proposed Resolution. Mr. Herrera and Mr. Rodriguez simultaneously seconded the motion and the vote was unanimous in favor of the motion. 3) ANNOUNCEMENTS The Clerk read the announcements. 4) PUBLIC COMMENTS No one present wished to make a Public Comment. 5) COUNCIL COMMENTS Hunt Davis Mr. Davis congratulated the Mayor's Task Force on the successful Ball and the Chamber of Commerce for their efforts in revitalizing the downtown area. He indicated that he hoped to see everyone at Unity Day. Steve Loffredo Mr. Loffredo welcomed the Boy Scouts that were in attendance from Troop #305 and congratulated the Task Force on the Mayor's Ball. Mr. Loffredo stated his belief that the Village Place at Miami Shores to be a good opportunity. Prospero Herrera Mr. Herrera congratulated the Mayor on the success of the Mayor's Ball and thanked the Chamber for their efforts. JC Rodriguez Unity Day. Mr. Rodriguez echoed the comments of his colleagues and encouraged everyone to attend Herta Holly Mayor Holly thanked everyone involved with the Mayor's Ball for their dedication and work, including Bob Bourne, Alice Burch, Susan Ackley, Tammy Austin and Elizabeth Esper. 6) ADJOURNMENT The March 3, 2009 Council Meeting was adjourned at 7:50 PM.
