The Special Workshop of the Miami Shores Village Council was held on
Wednesday, May 20, 1987 at the Village Hall commencing at 7:00 p.m. with the
following members present:

The Council met to continue the meeting of May 12th and evaluate the
1st two years of the Public Works Department's 5 year Capital Plan.
PUBLIC WORKS
Dr. Butler moved to approve $115,000 to be spent on a garbage truck.
Mrs. Stofik seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Mr. Loffredo moved to approve $43,000 for the purchase of a trash
grabber. Dr. Butler seconded and the motion passed unanimously;
Mrs. Stofik moved to approve $89.100 to purchase two open bed trucks
at the end of fiscal year 1987-88. Dr. Butler seconded and the motion
passed 4/1 with Mr. Loffredo dissenting. Mrs. Stofik asked to go on record
as being against privatization.
Mrs. Kirby moved to approve $27,600 for the purchase of 3 pickup
trucks. Dr. Butler seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Mrs. Kirby moved to approve $21,356 for the purchase of a radio
system. -Dr. B-tler seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Mrs. ACirby moved to approve $67,000 in fiscal year 1987-88 and $70,350
for fiscal year 1988-89 for street paving. Mr. Loffredo seconded and the
motion passed unanimously..
Mr. Loffredo moved to approve $2,690 for a spray rig (includes $490
for -a -baom-_to_be- used -_by Recreat-ion) and $3, 500 to remove the A/C cooling
tower. Dr. Butler seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
TIT. Butler moved to strike $8,400 for a brake drum lathe. Mrs. Stofik
seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Mr. Loffredo moved to delete $54,075 for remodeling Council Chambers.
-Mrs. Kirby seconded and the motion failed on a 2/3 vote with Mrs. Stofik,
Dr. Butler and Mayor Canton dissenting. Mrs. Stofik moved to approve
$27,000 which includes $17,000 budgeted for this fiscal year and the
appropriation of a $10,000 insurance check. Mrs. Kirby seconded. Dr.
Butler asked for an amendment to include $2500 for the consulting fee and
Mrs. Stofik declined the amendment. The motion passed on a 3/2 vote with Mr.
Loffredo and Mrs. Kirby dissenting. The Council directed the interim
Village Manager to initiate completion of the project during fiscal year
1987.
Dr. Butler moved to approve $5,700 for sidewalk improvements in
Village -Hall. -Mrs. Stofik seconded and the motion failed 2/3 with Mrs.
Stofik, Mr. Loffredo and Mrs. Kirby dissenting. Mrs. Kirby moved to approve
$13,000 to enhance the interior of Village Hall. Mr. Loffredo seconded and
the motion passed 4/1 with Dr. Butler dissenting.
Mr. Loffredo moved to approve $1,200 for a snapper mower. Mrs. Kirby
Mrs. Stofik seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Mrs. Kirby moved to delete $46,000 for paving the Public Works yard
and Mrs. Stofik seconded for discussion. The motion passed on a 3/2 vote
with Mrs. Stofik and Mayor Canton dissenting.
The meeting was adjourned for a 5 minute break at 8:35 and reconvened
at 8:40.
Dr. Butter moved to approve $12,600 to replace car #131. Mr. Loffredo
seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Mrs. Stofik moved to approve $3,450 to restripe and sealcoat downtown.
Mr. Loffredo seconded and the motion passed 4/1 with Mrs. Kirby dissenting.
Mrs. Kirby moved to delete $85,000 for a street sweeper. Mrs. Stofik
seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Dr. Butler moved to approve $15,950 for a lawnmower truck. Mr.
Loffredo seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
The meeting was adjourned at 8: 50p. m.
