MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL
TUESDAY, MAY 19, 1987
7:30 P.M.
The Regular Meeting of the Miami Shores Village Council was
held on Tuesday, May 19. 1987 at the Village Hall commencing at
7:30 p.m. with the following members present:
Mayor Spero Canton
Karen Kirby
Robert S. Butler, Jr.
Steve Loffredo
Marty Stofik
Also present: Gail Macdonald, Acting Village Manager
William F. Fann, Jr., Village Attorney
The meeting began with Reverend John Hirst, Redeemer Lutheran
Church, giving the invocation, followed by the Pledge of
Allegiance.
Mayor Canton was presented a 3rd place trophy from Mr.
Loffredo from the Mayor's. Classic Softball Tournament May 16th.
MINUTES
a. Regular Council Meeting 5/5/87 — Mrs. Stofik moved to
approve the minutes with the amendment that she did not specify
$150 to be spent for mailing the new resident letter in fiscal year
1987-88. Dr. Butler seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
b. Special Council Workshop 5/12/87 — Mrs. Stofik moved to
approve the minutes. Dr. Butler seconded and the motion passed
unanimously.

Mrs. Stofik mentioned that the luncheon that was to take plate
on Friday, May 15th would be rescheduled.

g. Historic Preservation Board 4/20/87
Mrs. Stofik asked Mr. Fann if the Board was allowed to
customize covenants and why he originally included landscaping as
part of the historical designation. She requested this be put on a
future agenda for clarification.
h. Planning and Zoning Board 5/14/87
APPOINTMENT TO RECREATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE
The two candidates were Patricia Derrer and Marc Stead and a
written vote was tallied. Mr. Stead was appointed with Dr. Butler,
Mayor Canton and Mr. Loffredo voting for him and Mrs. Stofik and
Mrs. Kirby voting for Mrs. Derrer.
APPOINTMENT TO DOWNTOWN REVITALIZATION BOARD-
Dr. Butler moved to appoint Mrs. Cheryl Piper to this
board. Mr. Loffredo seconded and the motion passed
unanimously.
PURCHASE OF WORD PROCESSOR — DOWNTOWN REVITALIZATION BOARD
Mr. Loffredo moved to approve the purchase of a word
processor through the normal bid procedures for an amount no
greater than $2,500. Mrs. Stafik seconded and the motion
passed 4/1 with Mrs. Kirby dissenting.
AWARD OF BID FOR TRASH TRUCK
Mrs. Kirby moved to approve the purchase of an open bed
dump truck for $40,400 from Palmetto Ford. Mrs. Stofik
seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
PROPOSAL TO INCREASE COUNTRY CLUB GREENS FEES AND CART RENTAL
FEES EFFECTIVE 6/1/87
Mrs. Kirby moved to accept an increase in greens fees
but not cart fees. The motion died for lack of a second. Dr.
Butler moved to approve an increase in cart fees from $16—$18
for 18 holes and from $9—$10 for nine holes and in greens
fees from $13—$15 weekdays and from $17—$20 weekends. Mr.
Loffredo seconded and the motion passed 4/1 with Mrs. Kirby
dissenting.
PROPOSAL TO COMMENCE REBUILDING OF GREENS THIS SUMMER
Dr. Butler moved to approve expenditures of up to $9,900
for Paul Bondeson to rebuild greens 1, 5 and 16 this summer.
Mr. Loffredo seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
PROPOSAL FOR CRIME PREVENTION SYMPOSIUM
Mrs. Stofik proposed that the Council fund $200 for
printing and mailing information X11 a half tag symposium on
crime prevention. Mrs. Kirby -moved to--a-p-p-r-ove transferring
$200 from the contingency fund for the printing and mailing
costs, Dr. Butler seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
VILLAGE MANAGER'S REPORT
COUNTRY CLUB FINANCIAL REPORT
Year to date, the Country Club shows a profit of
$47, 675.
COUNTRY CLUB MEMBERSHIP REPORT
To date, there are 1437 members.
INVESTMENT REPORT
UPDATE ON EL PORTAL/MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE BOUNDARY
Ms. Macdonald will follow up on recourse for prior
utility taxes from Southern Bell incorrectly paid to El
Portel and will check with FPL to see if their records are
correct.

COUNCIL COMMENTS.
Mrs. Stofik asked that agendas for board meetings be
sent to Council.
Mayor Canton asked that everyone look out for crime in their
neighborhood.
