A Workshop Meeting of the Miami Shores Village Council was held
on May 14, 1985, at the Village Hall, commencing at 7:30p.m., with the
following members present:
Mayor Karen Kirby
Robert S. Butler, Jr.
Kevin O'Connor
Elspeth Jensen
Absent: Marty Stofik
Also Present:
L.R. Forney, Jr., Village Manager
William Yates, Acting Village Attorney
This workshop was called for the purpose of discussing proposals
that would regulate television and commercial filming activity in the Village.
In a report to Council, Mr. Forney reviewed background information
pertaining to the question of Commercial Film Activity in Miami Shores
Village. This issue came to the forefront in March as a result of excessive
and annoying film activity reported by area residents living on Bayshore
Drive. At a regular meeting on March 19, 1985, the Council deferred action
on the problem until a workshop could be held.

The primary questions at issue as outlined by the Village Manager
(1) The desirability of cooperating with the Dade County
Film Industry to promote the filming business in the
area.
(2) Whether to permit commercial film activity to continue
in a residential zone where it generally is not permitted.
Mr. Forney presented Council with a proposed ordinance that would regulate
commercial film activity.
In the discussion that followed Council members and interested
citizens commented on the pros and cons of commercial film activity in the
Village.
The Council reached a consensus to modify the proposed ordinance
and consider it on first reading at the next meeting.
