01-04-1983 Regular MeetingREGULAR MEETING MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL January 4, 1983 The regular meeting of the Miami Shores Village Council was held on January 4, 1983, 7:30 p.m., at the Village Hall, with the following Council members present: Mayor Robert J. Lodge Herbert Spahn, Jr. Henry A. Everett Elspeth Jensen Absent: Donald W. McIntosh Also present: L. R. Forney, Village Manager William F. Fann, Jr., Village Attorney The meeting was opened with an invocation given by Rev. Delos L. Sharpton of the Miami Shores Baptist Church, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. MINUTES: (a) Regular Council meeting of December 22, 1982 - approved as written by motion made by Mrs. Jensen, seconded by Mr. Everett and passed unanimously. (b) Historic Preservation Board, December 20, 1982 - receipt acknowledged. (c) Recreation Advisory Committee, December 11, 1982 - receipt acknowledged. AUDIT REPORT - year ending September 30, 1982: The auditing firm of Coopers & Lybrand was represented by Messrs. Tom Jennings, George Hester and Jerry Kocak. Mr. Jennings reviewed the principal schedules for the Council and concluded that the Village was in fine financial shape. VILLAGE MANAGER'S REPORT: (a) Received certification of our Historic Preservation Ordinance from the Federal Government. (b) Gross profit for New Year's Party - about $9,000. (c) Storer Cable TV announced a 32% increase in basic rate for subscribers who were informed by letter. ANNOUNCEMENTS: (a) Chamber of Commerce annual installation dinner - January 15, 1983, honoring Ralph Renick, Man of the Year. 1/4/83 -2- ANNOUNCEMENTS - contd. (b) Adult "3 on 3" Basketball Tournament - Jan. 13 at 7:00 p.m. at Community Center. (c) Youth Swim classes - starting. Jan. 11, lessons for boys & girls 3 yrs. and up. (d) Soccer Program beginning Jan. 8th. (e) Jan. 7 - Manager's Cocktail party at Club. (f) Jan. 21 - Shrimp & Peel Party at Club. (g) Jan. 30 - Super Bowl Party at Club. COUNCIL COMMENTS: .Mrs. Jensen - read a letter from Supervisor of Elections concerning establishment of a new precinct in the Shores. All Council members extended greetings for the New Year. PUBLIC COMMENTS: Mr. Alfred Mikker, 10180 N. Miami Ave., asked if the $55,000 reduction in dumping fees, as reported previously, would reduce the garbage collection fees. Mr. Forney answered that it would not inasmuch as the present fee did not cover the actual cost of the service. ADJOURNMENT: 7:45 p.m. Village Clerk
