03-09-1982 Workshop MeetingWORKSHOP MEETING Miami Shores Village Council Tuesday, March 9, 1982 at 7:30 p.m. A workshop meeting of the Miami Shores Village Council was called for Tuesday, March 9, 1982, 7:30 p.m. at the Village Hall, for the purpose of reviewing health insurance bids and the proposed burglar alarm ordinance. The following members of Council were present: Mayor Robert J. Lodge Herbert Spahn, Jr. Donald W. McIntosh Elspeth Jensen Absent: Henry A. Everett Also in attendance: 3/9/82 Mr. L. R. Forney, Jr., Village Manager, Mr. William F. Fann, Jr., Village Attorney, Police Chief John Fletcher, Sri Balgobin, Finance Director and the following insurance representatives: Mr. Robert Blue, Home Life Mr. Paul Horn, Travelers Mr. Steve Hoffman, Travelers Mr. Tom Hutchinson, Internat'l Med. Centers HMO (1) HEALTH INSURANCE: Village Manager Forney recommended that the Village accept the proposal from International Medical Centers HMO, as it is an attractive program, offers the option to select your own doctors with the cost for dependent coverage at $50.08 for one dependent and $80.21 for two or more dependents. Mr. Forney added that the Finance Director has checked this out & supports the recommendation. Mr. Hutchinson, representing the IMC HMO, made some changes to his original proposal: routine physical exams are not included by any doctor of your choice; eyeglasses and dental are also not included if you choose your own doctor. The weekly cost of this plan to employees for dependent coverage is $11.56 for one dependent and $18.51 for two or more dependents. The present plan costs the employee $40.05 per week for one or more dependents. The other insurance representatives present asked questions concerning this coverage as well as the financial stability of the company. Mayor Lodge asked for a consensus of Council on the HMO plan: Mr. Spahn thought the Village should offer the employees the IMC HMO and 3/9/82 -2- Bankers Life. Mrs. Jensen was interested in the HMO. Mayor Lodge thought it was a great saving to the Village and the employees. Mr. McIntosh stated he would give it serious consideration. This will be placed on the next agenda for approval of an insurance bid/bids. (2) BURGLAR ALARM ORDINANCE. The Council again reviewed the burglar alarm ordinance proposed by the Police Department noting the changes made at the last workshop on this subject and making further amendments for a final ordinance to be prepared by the Village Attorney, to be presented for passage in April.
