MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL
July 24, 1979
A budget work shop was held on July 24, 1979, at the Village Hall ,
7:30 p.m. , with the following Councilmen present:
Mayor Henry A. Everett
Donald W. McIntosh
Joseph P. Farina
Ralph E. .Bowen
Herbert Spahn, Jr.
This meeting was called to review the following budgets with the
respective department heads:
RECREATION DEPT.
POOL
POLICE DEPT.
Prior to the budget review, Mr. Frank Miller, 890 N. E. 100th St. ,
appeared before Council to protest the current tennis court re-construction
that will extend the courts 10 ft. to the east, and that no notice was
given to the property owners. Mr. Miller contended that a former Council
had promised that the courts would not be extended along 100th St. , and
he asked for a resolution of this Council that they would not make any tennis
court extensions further to the east.
Mr. Ackley stated that we will have this on the agenda at the next
meeting.
RECREATION BUDGET - Mr. Petrey reviewed certain salary changes he
would recommend in order to keep a fulltime clerk typist, ie. , eliminating
some hours of the tennis court supervisor, when Mr. Fagel is off, and
increasing the cost of the ceramic classes to cover the helper in this
department.
The Council requested total cost of utilies for the Village and
and for each department.

The Building Director is to check the wiring at the tennis courts.
Mr. Petrey recommended purchasing a Solar blanket for the pool
and deleting gas for heating and maintenance on the heater.
A discussion took place with parents of swimmers concerning the
swim team and their need for a bulkhead.
Mr. Petrey recommended new fees, with the fees to be utilized for
additional instructors.
Council asked for a millage figure for each department and a summary
of revenue by department source.
POLICE BUDGET - Officer Ray Newby spoke about the need for new parking
meters, - basic need 210 meters at $116.00 each for vandal proof meters.
The Chamber of Commerce was asked to make a recommendation on whether or not
the merchants want the meters.
Police car costs were discussed as well as the Chief's recommendation
for a Juvenile Officer.
Mr. Mel Roberts presented a proposal from the Chamber of Commerce
for two additional police officers for fulltime foot patrol coverage.
Mr. Bowen suggested using auxiliary police for this assignment.
The meeting adjourned at 10:45 p.m.
