COUNCIL WORK SHOP MEETING
Thursday, September 16, 1976
5:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers
In attendance: Mayor McIntosh, Councilmen Condit, Claussen,
McLeod and Davis (who arrived late)

Mr. Harold Petrey, Recreation Director
1. The first business to be discussed was in regard to the swimming pool.
Mr. Petrey presented recommendations covering the following:
(1) Objectives:
a. To increase the utilization of the facility by the general
public while exerting a sincere effort to retain the
present pool members.
b. To maintain a reasonable and acceptable balance
between revenue and expenditures.
(2) Renovation:
a. Install a completely new re-circulation, filtration and
chlorination system in an external structure.
b. Construct a new pool in "X" number of months,
only after meticulous planning.
(3) Fees: Existing

With the exception of the outside guest fees the above fees were
tentatively approved by Council.
Mr. Petrey again requested the establishment of I. D. cards with
photographs, to be used for all facilities.
2. Mayor McIntosh reported that the County had appropriated $150, 000. 00
for beautification of N. E. 2nd Avenue after the sludge line has been
installed. The plan includes creation of islands near the corners of
the blocks from 93rd Street to 104th Street, and the planting of trees
and shrubs in these areas.

3. New sidewalks will be provided by Metro for portions of N. E. 2nd
Avenue, N. E. 6th Avenue and 103rd Street, with cost funded by the
Decade of Progress money.
4. Widening of 103rd Street and 17th Avenue - Mr. Andersen reported
that the County is working on this project, which includes widening
the street and avenue, installation of drainage, curbs and gutters,
and that the County needs 15 ft. of right-of-way along 103rd Street and
5 feet on 17th Avenue, plus a 10-ft. construction easement. The
County has agreed to pay the Village for removal of trees in the
right-of-way area, to pave aprons for driveways, and pay the cost for
replacement of the existing fence. Mr. Andersen suggested that this
fence start at the canal.
The Council agreed that application should be made for the rezoning of
the inspection station property.
The right-of-way option with some changes made in costs of restoring
the property after the widening, will be presented for approval at the
next Council meeting.
5. Fire inspection site - Councilman McLeod reported that he is still
negotiating with FP & L for a piece of their property at N. W. 93rd
Street and 6th Avenue, which location had been approved by Metro
at one time.
6. Park Drive ,- Mayor McIntosh brought up the report received from the
director of the Metro Traffic & Transportation Dept. , dated July 26,
1976, in which he stated (the director) . . "that the most effective means
to improve the level of safety and operation of this roadway is the
closing of the portion of Park Drive between 95th and 96th Street, and
the closing of ingress and egress to Park Drive at N. E. 6th Ave. , as
was indicated in our report of June 25, 1976. "
The Council discussed closing the south end of Park Drive but no action
was taken.
