The Miami Shores Village Council held a public hearing on the pro-
posed budget, as required by Charter, at the Miami Shores Country Club on
September 15, 1975, at 8:00 p.m. The following Councilmen were present:
Mayor Donald W. McIntosh
W. Al Davis
Dean R. Claussen
James W. Condit
Jon E. McLeod
There were approximately 65 residents present.
An invocation was given by Mr. Frank Holt, followed by the plege of
allegiance.
Mayor McIntosh opened the meeting and introduced those seated at
the head table, which included the Village Manager, the Finance Director, the
Village Clerk, the Club Manager, and representatives from the auditing firm
of Coopers & Lybrand, as well as the Village Council.
Before starting with the budget Mayor McIntosh announced that there
would be a Town Hall meeting on October 20, 1975, at the Community Center,
at 7:30 p. m. , to give the Villagers an opportunity to voice their comments and
recommendations on services and facilities within the Village.
The Mayor first reviewed the estimated revenues which indicated a
tax millage decrease proposed at $7. 60 per thousand assessed valuation, and
a 25% increase in garbage fees. The departmental expenses were discussed in
detail, along with new items of capital improvement reserves for new buildings,
major repairs and remodeling to present buildings and new equipment.

On the Country Club budget complaints were voiced against reducing
the number of life guards. Also, the tennis players pointed out that their dues
had netted several thousand dollars over expenses and they felt the hitting wall
should be budgeted as a regular item this year instead of in the back of the
budget dependent on available funds.
The Mayor announced at the conclusion of the meeting that the comments
would be taken under advisement, with final adoption of the budget to be made
on Tuesday, September 23, 1975, at the Village Hall at a special meeting of
the Village Council.
The meeting adjourned at 11:30 p.m.
