COUNCIL WORK SHOP MEETING
Tuesday, February 25, 1975
5:00 p.m. at Miami Shores Country Club
In attendance: Mayor James W. Condit, Councilmen Claussen,
Clement and Jones
Country Club Committee: Lawton McCall, Roy Abagnale,
and Jack Fitzgerald
The meeting was opened by Mr. Claus sen as Chairman of the Country
Club Committee, who asked everyone to work together for the good of
the club. Following the meeting of last Wednesday and interviewing
employees, the following items were noted: (1) morale of employees,
(2) management salaries of four people draw $50, 000 annually, (3) no
control over the waitresses, (4) no control of employees meals.
Mr. Abagnale reported on his study of food and liquor costs; that the
waitresses salaries were too high; and as of January 31st, there was
$145, 000. 00 in accounts receivable. He advised that the overtime be
cut out, screen personnel and give proper direction in every department.
Mr. McCall reported on the payments corning due and stated that by
June 1st, $78, 400 will be due; that at the beginning of this fiscal year
there was $4700. 00 cash, $31, 000. 00 owed in current bills and $77, 000. 00
in accounts receivables. He suggested as possible solutions: see if
the bank will refinance principal over one lump sum and spread it over
more years; postpone principal payments and just pay interest; hold an
election and issue general obligation bonds. Mr. McCall added that the
Council could create a board or committee to develop operational policy
matters for consideration. When approved the Village Manager could
administer them. This is within the framework of the present charter
and would not need any charter amendments.
Mr. Fitzgerald reported on discrepancies in bills and other membership
matters.
Suggestions were made for a purchase order system and purchasing on
a competitive basis.
The meeting adjourned at 5:45 p.m.
