MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL
January 7, 1975
The regular meeting of the Miami Shores Village Council was held
at 4:00 o'clock P.m. , January 7, 1975, at the Village Hall, with the following
Councilmen present:
Mayor James W. Condit
Elwood Jones
Harry F. Smenner, Jr.
Absent: Dean R. Claussen
Raymond L. Clement
Mr. David Peace, Village Manager, and Mr. Richard M. Lund,
Village Attorney, were also present.
The meeting was opened with an invocation given by Dr. Floyd Folsom
of the Miami Shores Baptist Church.
Minutes of the regular meeting of December 17, 1974, were approved
as written by motion made by Mr. Smenner, seconded by Mr. Jones and
carried.
Opening of bids on Recreation bus.
The following bids were received and opened:
Hausman 1974 Ford chassis, Wayne body $10, 775. 00
Tropical Chev. 1974 Chev. chassis, Wayne body 10, 799. 00
1975 It it 11, 675. 00
Southeastern Bus Sales
Ward body & chassis 10, 382. 00
Alternate (not to specs)
Ford chassis 9, 200. 00
IHC if 9, 100. 00
Mr. Jones moved that the bids be accepted and returned to the
Village Manager for analysis and a report back to the Council at the next meeting.

The motion was seconded by Mr. Smenner and carried.
Recommendation on garbage truck bids.
The Village Manager recommended (1) purchasing the lowest priced
combined chassis-cab-body combination meeting specifications and available
for early delivery, from Southland Equipment Corp. for $26, 843. 40, and
(2) purchasing the lowest priced body and lowest priced chassis/cab available
for earliest delivery and meeting specifications, one from Tom Wood Equipment
Corp. body for $8, 995. 00 with immediate delivery, and one International
Harvester chassis/cab for $16, 802. 00, at 6 mos, delivery. Total bid for two
packer garbage trucks - $52, 640. 40.
Mr. Smenner moved that the purchases be made as recommended
by the Manager. The motion was seconded by Mr. Jones and carried.
Bills for December.
Approval of current bills was given by motion made by Mr. Jones,
seconded by Mr. Smenner and passed.
Mayor Condit congratulated the Recreation Department and the
Miami Shores Soccer team on their championship record.
Mr. Smenner thought the Council should decide on how Councilmen
may request information from the Village Manager and added that the answers
should be distributed to all members of the Council. Mr. Smenner then stated
that he would like to get a list of the amounts paid to each Village employee for
the year just ended.
Mr. Jones brought up the policy on handling the 15% service charge

that was to go into effect October 1st and stated that it was not being returned
to the employees as approved by the Council.
Mr. Jones also brought up the air conditioning noise complaint
made by Mr. Spragg of 73 N. E. 108th Street and cited the memo given to
Mr. Bradford by the former Village Manager which had not been carried out.
Mr. Jones asked the Village Manager to try to bring some peace and harmony
to the situation. Mr. Peace reported what he had done in the case. Mr. Jones
further requested that the Manager try to resolve the problem but Mr. Peace
stated that he has done all he can do in the case.
Councilman Smenner asked the Village Attorney the status of the
trailer parking on 105th Street. Mr. Lund reported that the Village had won the
case in court and the Judge gave Mr. Freund until January 6th to remove.
However, if he has filed an appeal it will stay the judgment until it is finally
adjudicated.
The meeting adjourned at 5:40 p.m.
