10-03-1974 Work Session COUNCIL WORK SESSION on Proposed Agreement with Dade County on Fire/Rescue Merger Thursday, October 3, 1974 7:00 p.m. at the Village Hall In attendance: Mayor Condit, Councilmen Jones, Claussen, Clement and Smenner Village Attorney Village Manager, Chief of Police & Firemen Members of the Chamber of Commerce and interested citizens The purpose of this meeting was to review a proposed agreement with Dade County for the merger of the fire and rescue services, including personnel and equipment, in event it is approved by the voters on November 5, 1974, for the fiscal year beginning October 1, 1975. Mr. Clement stated that the people are going to be hurt in any event and he thought we should close the door on the operation, sell the equipment and then let the County furnish the service. He was opposed to the transfer on the basis of $1. 00 a year. It was Mr. Jones' opinion that, the people would be very unhappy if they were served from a station outside the Shores. He felt that we are obligated to keep it within the boundaries of Miami Shores. The main points for re-negotiation were: 1. That the County assume the debt on the fire truck. 2. That the lease of space in the Village Hall be limited to three years and a reasonable rental paid. 3. That the medical equipment not be permanently transferred without permission of the Village Council. 4. That the land provided for a new fire station be leased to Dade County instead of deeded. It was generally agreed that the summary of the proposed agreement should be printed in the Village Hall News. A meeting was set for review of the Country Club budget on Tuesday, October 8, 1974 at 7:00 p.m. , Village Hall. The meeting adjourned at 9:15 p.m. Village Clerk APPROVED: ,,,,.tom ou 749, or
