07-15-1974 Work Session CkJ COUNCIL WORK SESSION ON THE BUDGET Monday, July 15, 1974 7:30 p, m. at the Village Hall In attendance: Mayor Condit, Councilmen Jones and Claussen Village Manager, Chief Fletcher, Bob Wiley, Jim Glaid, Hal Petrey and John Ely The first business taken up was a discussion of the future of the automobile inspection station as outlined by Bob Wiley. Bob explained the revenue losses during the past year as due to equipment out of order and lack of personnel. He also felt that the pro-ration of the $3. 00 fee was not fair and that the Dade League of Municipalities was going to fight this, as well as, the loss of revenue to the cities on re-inspected cars. The estimated expense of running the station in the fiscal year 1974-75 was $87, 490. 00. The estimated revenue was set at $94, 000. 00. However, Chief Fletcher figured that the fringe benefits for the inspection station personnel, such as, pension, Social Security, hospitalization, and disability insurance, amounted to $15, 460. 00. It was Mr. Claussen's opinion that if the Village is not making any money on this facility we should get rid of it. Recreation Budget - Hal Petrey reviewed each item of his budget and made some minor changes in personnel. His estimated budget was less than the one of the current fiscal year. Concerning the Recreation Advisory Committee Mr. Petrey stated that he felt the present committee was a winning team and that with their experience in planning and building the Center and guiding its policies over the last few years, it would be unwise to make any changes. For the vacancy created by Sid Reese, he recommended: Mrs. Gail Posey, Dr. Waldman or Prof. Connolly. The Mayor proposed that the Pension Board recommend another increase for the retired employees. Mr. John Ely, Club Manager, discussed his proposed budget with estimated dining room profit based on 50% of sales of $470, 000 and 7010 profit on bar sales of $240, 000. The personnel services of these two departments were left open to cover help as required on volume of sales. In the Administrative Department under Village Services the amount was changed to $15, 000. 00 with the additional $10, 000. 00 put under Fixed Charges for Pension costs.
