06-07-1974 Special Meeting SPECIAL MEETING MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL June 7, 1974 A special meeting of the Miami Shores Village Council was called by the Mayor for 4;00 o'clock on Friday, June 7, 1974, at the Village Hall to review the proposals submitted by the Country Club ByLaws Committee, and other matters pending. The following Councilmen were present; Mayor James W. Condit Dean R. Claussen Raymond L. Clement Elwood Jones Harry F. Smenner, Jr. Also present were the Village Manager, the Finance Director, Howard McLaughlin, Charles Dunn, Jack Fitzgerald and Richard Lund. Discussion was on (1) the plan presented by Mr. Dunn for a ten-man Board of Governors appointed by the Council to run the club, (2) the plan proposed by Mr. Gionfriddo for a five-man Board of Governors appointed by the Council with elected Committeemen under the Board, (3) the present Country Club Association and (4) Mr. McIntyre's proposal for a ten-man Board to operate as the Country Club Association but appointed by the Council. It was unanimously agreed by the Council to have the four ideas sent back to the Committee to come up with one proposal. The Village Manager reported that the Village Attorney would like the Village to pay half the cost of sending attorney Robert Jarvis to the Fair Labor Standards conference in Washington. The Council asked the Village Manager to deny this. Mr. Ely, Club Manager, made a report to the Council on the problems 6/7/74 r -2- that have resulted from the 15% tip with complications being added by the new Fair Labor Standards law. Mr. Ely recommended and asked approval to distribute the 15110 gratuity or service char.ge, since according to the law it must be treated as salary, on a 10/5 basis, increasing the hourly wages of those serving by 10% and the behind-the-scene workers by 5%. This was approved by motion made by Mr. Clement, seconded by Mr. Jones and passed. Mr. Claussen had left before this action. The meeting adjourned at 5:50 p.m. Village Clerk APPROVED: Ma 1 b's
