10-31-1972 Work Session MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL
WORK SESSION
October 31, 1972
A work session was called by the Council for Tuesday, October 31,
1972, at 4:00 p.m. for the purpose of discussing some of the current business.
The following Council members were present:
Mayor Elwood Jones
Dean R. Claussen
Raymond L. Clement
Mrs. Marjorie A. Dunn
Howard J. McLaughlin
Absent: None
Mr. John W. McIntyre, Village Manager, and Mr. Thomas H.
Anderson, Village Attorney, were also present.
The first item of discussion was in regard to the east five feet of
Lots 1 and 2, Block 21, E1 Portal Sub, the ownership of which, through a deed
to the Village, was holding up title insurance needed to close the sale of the
property. The Village Manager was asked to contact the County to find out
if this land would be needed in any future widening of N. E. 6th Ave.
Purchase of a 1972 American LaFrance fire truck offered by
Biscayne Fire Equipment Co. was considered. This pumper would cost the
Village $811. 00 less than the one bid by American LaFrance on our own
specifications but was acceptable to our Fire Department. The Council
generally agreed to purchase this machine.
Councilman Claussen made a detailed report on the work his
committee has been doing on the remodeling of the Country Club kitchen.
He stated that the planning is about 90% complete, that the specifications

for the equipment are out to bid and that Mr. Horsey, architect, is going
ahead with the plans and engineering on the remodeling work.
The Council was in agreement that on all sales of food or beverage
at the Club a 15% gratuity will be added.
Request for time and a half overtime and furnishing shoes for the
Police Department was brought up by the Village Manager but the Council did
not discuss these items.
Mr. McLaughlin discussed the type of letter that should go out with
the billings for the increased dues at the Club and thought it might be advisable
to send a separate letter to the social members. He also brought up the need
for new score cards with some suggested changes.
Acting
Mr. Claus sen asked the Council to name the Chief of Police to a
permanent position at the next Council meeting.
The Village Manager reviewed the County plans for a left-turn lane
on N. E. 6th Ave. at 96th Street.
The meeting adjourned at 5:40 p. m.
