05-05-1972 Special Meeting 3 SPECIAL MEETING MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL May 5, 1972 A special Council meeting was held on Friday, May 5, 1972, 4:00 p.m. , at the Village Hall, with the following Council members present: Mayor Elwood Jones Dean R. Claussen Mrs. Marjorie A. Dunn Howard J. McLaughlin Absent: Raymond L. Clement Mr. John W. McIntyre, Village Manager and Mr. Harold E. Petrey, Recreation Director, were also present. This meeting was called for the purpose of discussing requests by private schools for the use of recreation facilities and a four-day work week for the Police Department. Recreation facilities: Mr. Harold Petrey, Recreation Director, stated that he felt the schools could be handled with limitations. Concerning present abuses of the facilities by the Bassett School, the Council assured Mr. Petrey that he had the authority to deal with this problem. Mr. Claussen suggested that Ordinance No. 324 include wording to the effect: "that churches, schools and other institutions may use the facilities with approval of the Recreation Director and availability of the property. Further, that the Director shall have the right and authority to levy a fee for the facility used in accordance with maintenance costs and services required. " Mr. Claussen further suggested that this be made a part of Section 1, of the above mentioned ordinance. 5/5/72 -2- Four-day week for the Police Department: Chief Fowler petitioned the Council for approval of a 4-day work week for the Police Department on the basis of the success of the system that has resulted in other Police Departments. He stated he would like to initiate it on a trial basis, that he is not asking for any more money, any more men or any more equipment. It was the consensus of the Council that the Village Manager could establish this change on a trial basis as an administrative policy. The meeting adjourned at 4:55 p. m. Village Clerk APPROVED: Mayor
