SPECIAL MEETING
MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL
November 18, 1971
A special meeting of the Miami Shores Village Council was held at
4:00 o'clock p. m. , November 18, 1971, at the Village Hall, with the follow-
ing Council members present:
Mayor Elwood Jones
Raymond L. Clement
Mrs. Marjorie A. Dunn
Howard J. McLaughlin
Absent: Dean R. Claussen
This meeting was called by the Mayor so that the Village Manager
could brief the Council on a number of current subjects.
The Village Manager reported that the current budgetary salary
increases of 1% were going into effect as of the beginning of Phase 2 and that
the Golf Pro's salary contract would go into effect at the same time.
The 40th Anniversary of the Village on January 2, 1972 was discussed
and it was suggested that between $300. 00 and $400. 00 could be spent on the
celebration. A street dance in front of the Village Hall was suggested and
Mr. Clement asked that Mr. McCall be contacted to take some part in the
anniversary celebration because of his long tenure with the Village. Small
half dollar size medals were suggested by the Village Manager carrying the
seal on one side and the words 1140th Anniversary January 2, 1972" on the
other side. Discussion was held as to the possibility of selling the medals
to reclaim the cost of about $125. 00 for 500.
The Manager reported on the cost of two shuffleboard courts and
suggested a location in the triangular park which is west of the Field House.

It was suggested that the residents on either side of the park be informed of
this proposal.
The Council reviewed the questionnaire card that is to be sent all resident
swimming members and suggested that an accompanying letter be drafted.
It was reported that the Recreation Director would like to have a
policy set by the Council as to the private schools' use of the Recreation
Center playing fields. It was felt that a request will be made at the next Council
meeting by two private schools for this privilege.
The youth tennis program drawn up by the Recreation Director was
discussed and approved if:it can be put on at a fee basis which would pay for
the instructor and if it did not interfere with the adults' afternoon play.
The Village Manager repol-ted on the proposal by Peoples Gas to air
condition the club house and the proposal by Hill York to repair the present air
conditioning units. It was suggested that the Manager approach Peoples Gas
Service on the possibility of getting a ten-year free service contract rather
than the five-year free service contract proposed.
Mr. Clement expressed his concern about the golf course being in
bad shape with very little root foundation and boulders in the rough between
13 and 14 fairways. The Mayor and the Village Manager planned to check out
these complaints .
