SPECIAL MEETING
MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL
September 28, 1971
A special meeting of the Miami Shores Village Council was held
at 5:00 o'clock p. m. , September 28, 1971, at the Village Hall, with the
following Council members present:
Mayor Elwood Jones
Dean R. Claussen
Mrs. Marjorie A. Dunn
Howard J. McLaughlin, Council appointee
Absent: Raymond L. Clement
Mr. John W. McIntyre, Village Manager, was also present.
This informative meeting was called at the suggestion of Mayor
Jones to discuss current developments.
Tom and Lib Buckley asked to be heard concerning the swimming
program. It was Mr. Buckley's feeling that the competitive swimming program
because of new Country Club membership regulations and lack of participation
and enthusiasm would have to be discontinued. The Council suggested that the
Mayor and the Village Manager meet with representatives of the swimming
association and representatives of the recreational swimming group in order
to make a recommendation to the Council.
A discussion took place concerning the condemnation suit of the
Grover 50 ft. lot west of the Police station. It was suggested that the Village
offer Mr. Grover $9, 000 for this lot, that our attorney advise us approximately
what the legal fees would be if we withdrew from the condemnation suit now,
and/or ask for a continuation of the case.
The Police Department budget was discussed with regard to
