MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL
January 5, 1971
A regular meeting of the Miami Shores Village Council was held
at 4:00 o'clock p. m. , January 5, 1971, at the Village Hall, with the follow-
ing Councilmen present:
Mayor Don G. Nicholson
Dean R. Claussen
Raymond L. Clement
Elwood Jones
Absent: Edwin B. Cole
Mr. John W. McIntyre, Village Manager and Mr. Thomas H.
Anderson, Village Attorney, were also present.
The meeting was opened by Mayor Nicholson who asked Councilman
Jones to give the invocation.
Minutes of the meeting of December 15, 1970, were approved as
written by motion made by Mr. Claussen, seconded by Mr. Clement and passed.
Planning Board minutes.
Inasmuch as the Council had not had time to reNiew the report of
the Planning Board meeting of January 4, 1971, action on these items was
deferred until the next meeting.
Permission for Miami Edison Senior High Golf Team to use the
Miami Shores golf course for home matches.
This request included using the course on Jan. 13, Jan. 21, Jan.
28, Feb. 5, Feb. 19 and Feb. 25, 1971, for two foursomes playing 9 holes
after 4:00 p.m. Mr. Claussen moved that the Council grant this permit on
a one-year basis and that an actual record be kept on the use of the course,
attitude and what effect it has on play, and that next year the application should

be made through the Golf Course Association. The motion was seconded by
Mr. Jones and passed 4/1 with Mr. Clement dissenting.
Dedication of the new Community Center, January 30, 1971.
Mr. Claussen reported that a committee of Messrs. Jones,
McIntosh and Dugoni had been appointed to plan and make all arrangements
for the dedication.
Unfinished Business:
(a) Bay drift study - no report.
(b) Air conditioning in the men's locker room - no report.
(c) Request for taxi rate increase - The Council had received
copies of the City of Miami ordinance approving the requested
increase for Aircraft Taxi Company and White Cab Company.
Mr. Claussen moved that the Council approve the rate increase
subject to a review of the license fee or franchise before the
next license year. The motion was seconded by Mayor Nicholson
and carried.
Mr. Alfred Mikker, 10180 N. Miami Avenue, appeared before the
Council to complain about the treatment he received from the Police Dept, in
regard to ae-mzeighborhood dog quarrel. Mayor Nicholson promised to look
into the case.
The meeting adjourned at 5:05 p. m.
