MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL
August 18, 1970
A regular meeting of the Miami Shores Village Council was held
at 4:00 o'clock P. M. , August 18, 1970, at the Village Hall, with the follow-
ing Councilmen present:
Mayor Don G. Nicholson
Dean R. Claussen
Raymond L. Clement
Absent: Edwin B. Cole
Elwood Jones
Mr. John W. McIntyre, Village Manager, and Mr. Thomas H.
Anderson, Village Attorney, were also present.
Mayor Nicholson opened the meeting and called upon Father
Clifford Horvath, Church of the Resurrection, for the invocation.
Minutes of the meeting of July 7, 1970 were approved after an
interlineation change was made in the date of the previous meeting from
July 7, 1970 to June 16, 1970, on a motion by Mr. Claussen and seconded by
Mr. Clement and passed.
Mrs. Charles Dunn, President of the Miami Shores Taxpayers
League, presented a resolution.opposing any changes in the zoning laws at
this time and another resolution requesting that the County and Village adjust
the millage so that the tax imposed on each piece of property is not increased
by reason of increased assessment. Mrs. Dunn is opposed to an Olympic
size swimming pool on the 5. 4 acres at the club as the noise and lights would
decrease property values on 104th Street.
On a motion by Mr. Claussen and seconded by Mr. Clement and

passed, the public hearing date on the budget was set on September 14,
1970 at 8:00 p.m. at the Country Club and on a motion by Mayor Nicholson
and seconded by Mr. Claussen and passed, the Council meeting dates for
September were changed to the 8th and the 29th.
Authority was asked to charge a $119. 00 air compressor, replac-
ing the one stolen at the Club, to the insurance reserve account as it was not
covered by reason of a deductible clause. The motion was made for this by
Mr. Clement, seconded by Mr. Claussen and passed.
After a discussion on appointing a citizens committee on various
zoning problems and a failure to get a second to Mr. Claussen's motion on
the committee concept the subject was tabled on a motion by Mayor Nicholson,
and seconded by Mr. Clement and passed.
On the Florida League of Municipalities Annual Convention advance
reservations at the Deauville Hotel, October 25, 7.L and 27, 1970, the Council
indicated they would let the Manager know later.
The ordinance amending Sections 3, 6, 11 and 20 of the Miami
Shores Pension Plan Ordinance No. 273, as amended, was passed on motion
by Mr. Claussen and seconded by Mayor Nicholson. This is Ordinance No. 349.
Mr. Jack Poffenbarger made two recommendations for the relief
of trash floating into the Guernsey canal. Number one is that the Village
should get some professional advice or approach the County for a solution.
The Village Manager was instructed to ask the U. S. Corps of Engineers and
the County for advice on the solution of the problem before next Council meet-
ing.
Authority for fire-proofing the basement ceiling at the Club

at a cost of $785. 00 was taken off the agenda by mutual agreement until
the Club's kitchen remodeling was studied.
The bills for the months of June and July were reviewed and
approved on a motion by Mr. Clement and seconded by Mr. Nicholson.
On a motion by Mr. Claussen, seconded by Mr. Clement and
passed, on the filing of a list of officials with the Clerk of the Circuit Court
on Metro Ord. ¢#7046, Section 7. , it was unanimous that no list be furnished
at this time.
A letter from Mr. John S. Greene, Senior Administrative Asst.
to the County Manager, was read stating that the Dade County Fire Department
will comply with our request on answering all building fires until the future of
our Fire Department is determined. The suggestion was made that the letter
be acknowledged with thanks.
Alterations at the Pro Shop were not taken up because the Pro,
Mr. John Cusano, was not present.
The meeting was adjourned at 5:30 p.m.
