MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL
July 16, 1968
A regular meeting of the Miami Shores Village Council was held
at 4:00 o'clock P. M. , July 16, 1968, at the Village Hall, with the following
Councilmen present:
Mayor Edwin B. Cole
Dean R. Claussen
Richard M. Lund
Absent: Raymond L. Clement
James A. Dixon, Jr.
Mr. Thomas H. Anderson, Village Attorney, was also present.
The meeting was opened by Mayor Cole and an invocation was
given by Councilman Lund.
Minutes of the meeting of July 2, 1968, were approved as printed
by motion made by Mr. Claussen, seconded by Mr. Lund and passed.
Request for approval to spend not to exceed $2400. 00 for
additional installation at inspection station located at 10550
N. W. 17th Ave.

The Chief of Police explained how this improvement,will
expedite vehicle inspections. Mr. Claussen moved approval of the expendi-
ture requested for improvements to the inspection station at 17th Avenue.
Motion was seconded by Mr. Lund and passed unanimously.
A letter and resolution was received from the Downtown Kiwanis
Club suggesting caution in considering any new gun law,
No action was required.

Cancel August Council meetings.
Mr. Claussen moved that we suspend Council meetings during
the month of August. Motion was seconded by Mr. Lund and passed
unanimously.
Suggested budget calendar.
Tues. 7:30 P. M. Aug. 27th - preliminary budget discussion.
Tues. 7:30 P..M. Sept. 3rd - begin final preliminary budget discussion.
Mon. 8:00 P. M. Sept. 16th - public hearing on budget at Country Club.
Mr. Claussen moved that we establish these dates for budget
discussions and the public hearing. Motion was seconded by Mr. Lund and
passed unanimously.
County Commission public hearing on Aug. 23rd to consider
consolidation of all police and fire departments.
The Council requested that the Village bulletin notify the people
to attend this hearing on the 23rd and to write letters to the County Commission.
Also, the Chamber of Commerce and civic groups s}wuld be contacted to
take an active part in opposing this move.

Mr. Claussen moved that we contact the Janis Company and
remind them that their permit to have the sign has expired and we would
appreciate it if they would remove the sign as soon as possible so that we
can straighten out our records. Motion was seconded by Mr. Lund and
passed unanimously.
Mr. Alfred Mikker, 179 N. W. 97th St. , appeared before the
Council to complain about a barking dog. The Council agreed to investigate

the problem.
Unfinished business:
(a) Country Club membership study. A proposed resolu-
tion was read establishing new annual membership fees at
the Country Club. Discussion arose over the regulation
that "there shall be no distinction between Single and Family
memberships . . . . " It was finally decided to review this
question at the next meeting.
The meeting adjourned at 5:10 P. M.
