REGULAR MEETING
MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL
August 15, 1967
A regular meeting of the Miami Shores Village Council was held
at 4:00 o'clock P. M. , August 15, 1967, at the Village Hall, with the follow-
ing Councilmen present:
Mayor Edwin B. Cole
Richard M. Lund
Dean R. Claussen
Absent: Raymond L. Clement
James A. Dixon, Jr.
Mr. Thomas H. Anderson, Village Attorney, was also present.
The meeting was opened by Mayor Cole and the invocation given
by Dr. Floyd Folsom of the Miami Shores Baptist Church.
As no Council meetings had been scheduled for the month of August,
a very limited agenda was prepared to handle pressing business, the first
item being a proposed amendment to the utility tax ordinance exempting "any
agency or instrumentality of the government of the United States of America,
the State of Florida, Dade County or Miami Shores Village, Florida, " from
paying the utility tax. It was the intention of the Council that no schools in
Miami Shores should be exempt and Mr. Anderson stated that he would advise
the Council if this amendment would affect public schools. Mr. Lund then
moved that the ordinance be adopted. Motion was seconded by Mr. Claussen
and ORDINANCE NO. 330 was unanimously passed and adopted.
The following resolution was read by the Village Attorney:
8/15/67 63
-2-
"A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE EXECUTION AND
SALE OF $160, 000. 00 47o REVENUE CERTIFICATES TO
PROVIDE FUNDS FOR ACQUIRING CERTAIN LANDS
NECESSARY FOR THE OPERATION OF THE MIAMI
SHORES VILLAGE GOLF COURSE AND COUNTRY CLUB;
DESCRIBING THE FORM OF SAID CERTIFICATES AND
PROVIDING FOR THE MANNER, CONDITIONS AND
SOURCE OF FUNDS FOR THE PAYMENT THEREOF. "
Mr. Lund moved that this resolution be adopted. Motion was
seconded by Mr. Claussen and RESOLUTION NO. 478 was unanimously
passed and adopted.
Mr. Earl Barber, Chairman of the House Committee at the Country
Club and Mr. Bill Mercer, General Chairman, appeared at this meeting to
urge the Council to expedite redecorating the men's lounge. A letter of
proposal from Mr. Wes Dunaway, decorator, was procured from the Village
Manager's office, recommending certain carpeting and drapery of various
prices plus wall paneling and acoustical ceiling. After discussion, Mr.
Claussen moved that the Council instruct the Village Manager to proceed
as rapidly as possible with the renovating of the men's lounge at the Country
Club to include a new ceiling, paneling of the walls, rugs, drapery and other
things to complete the job in a first class manner but not to exceed $7500. 00,
and that there shall be three bids on the cost of installing a new ceiling and
on the cost of the paneled walls (it was pointed out that it is not practical to
get bid prices on carpeting and fabrics). Motion was seconded by Mr. Cole
and passed by two affirmative votes with Mr. Lund abstaining.
The meeting adjourned at 5:35 P. M.
