SPECIAL MEETING
MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL
September 13, 1966
A special meeting of the Village Council was held on September
13, 1966, at 4:00 P. M. , for the purpose of adopting the budget for the fiscal
year beginning October 1, 1966 and fixing the 1966 tax millage rate. The
following Councilmen were present:
Mayor Dean R. Claussen
Richard M. Lund
Elwood Jones
Raymond L. Clement
Absent: James A. Dixon, Jr.
Mr. Anderson, the Village Attorney, was also absent.
The Mayor opened the meeting and the Village Manager read a
proposed ordinance adopting the annual budget for the fiscal year beginning
October 1, 1966, and fixing the 1966 tax levy. Mr. Lund moved that this
ordinance be adopted. Motion was seconded by Mr. Jones.
Mr. Carlton Hayward, of the Miami Shores Taxpayers League,
stated that according to our charter there should be ten days from the time
of the budget hearing to file objections in writing and that the Taxpayers League
wished more time to file a protest. Mayor Claussen stated that the County
had requested the millage rate by September 9th and that an extention was
given until September 15th. In regard to the charter section concerning the
budget hearing, the Mayor adjourned the meeting for 15 minutes to review
this paragraph.
When the meeting was again called to order Mayor Claussen stated

that they had reviewed the charter and feel they are in agreement with its
requirements and in cooperating with Dade County they feel they should
adopt the budget at this time.
Upon vote the motion was carried unanimously and ORDINANCE
NO. 322 was adopted, same being entitled:
AN ORDINANCE ADOPTING THE ANNUAL BUDGET FOR
THE FISCAL YEAR BEGINNING OCTOBER 1, 1966 AND
FIXING THE 1966 TAX LEVY OF MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE.
Resolution No. 462 was read establishing a salary rate schedule
for the fiscal year October 1, 1966 to September 30, 1967. Upon motion
made by Mr. Clement and seconded by Mr. Lund, RESOLUTION NO. 462
was unanimously passed and adopted.
Mr. Clement moved that any citizen who has a recommendation
or complaint on the budget be given until September 20th to file it and the
Council will consider it. Motion was seconded by Mr. Jones. Mr. Lund
stated that he had no objections to permitting citizens to file any written
recommendation but he certainly did not consider that we are making this
motion because of any deviation from charter requirements. The motion was
then passed unanimously.
The meeting adjourned at 4:45 P. M.
