09-28-1965 Public Hearing PUBLIC HEARING ON PROPOSED BUDGET 1965-66 � MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL September 28, 1965 The Miami Shores Village Council held a public hearing at the Miami Shores Country Club on September 28, 1966, at 7:30 P. M. for the purpose of reviewing the proposed budget for the fiscal year beginning October 1, 1965. The following Councilmen were present: Mayor Dean R. Claussen Richard M. Lund Elwood Jones James A. Dixon, Jr. Absent: Raymond L. Clement The Village Manager and the Finance Director were also present, as well as, 49 Village citizens. Mayor Claussen opened the meeting and extended to everyone a cordial welcome. He stated the purpose of the meeting is briefly to give the Villagers a story of our operation during the coming year. The Mayor then reviewed the proposed revenues and expenditures to be followed;by a detail of each individual department of the Village, library and golf course. Mr. Allen Herbert, 1207 N. E. 92nd St. , asked about the surplus cash on hand at the beginning of the year. Mr. Joe Krebbs, 55 N. W. 102nd St. , asked about our auditing firm and how it was selected. Mr. Robert Fremont, 10550 N. E. 2nd Pl., asked about the Pension Plan for the Police Dept. and how it worked. Mrs. Howard Lang, 750 N. E. 101st St. , asked about the number of 9/28/65 -2- children outside the Shores who use the facilities of our Recreation Dept. Mr. Jim Townsend, 485 N. E. 92nd St. , asked about the purchase of the 4-1/2 acres north of the Country Club. Mr. Clyne Chambers, 901 N. E. 97th St. , asked about beautification of the business district and if there is an appropriation for N. E. 2nd Avenue. Concerning the pension plan, Mrs. Lang thought we should consider retirement for police at the age of 55. Mr. Glenn Partin, 149 N. E. 93rd St. , thought the budget was unsound because of the large cash carryover and felt it could be cut by $45, 000 by reducing the following accounts: contingency - $6, 000, landscaping $4, 000, street improvements $10, 000, building at recreation dept. $10, 000, city hall addition $15, 000. Mrs. Fred Kalil, 10108 N. E. 1st Avenue, gave the Council a vote of confidence on the way the Village has been operated. The meeting adjourned at 9:15 P.
