MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL
November 3, 1964
A regular meeting of the Miami Shores Village Council was held
at 4:00 o'clock P. M. , November 3, 1964, at the Village Hall, with the
following Councilmen present:
Mayor Ray L. Clement
Elwood Jones
Dean R. Claus sen
John F. Saxon
Dale Miller
Mr. Thomas H. Anderson, Village Attorney, was also present.
The meeting was opened by Mayor Clement and the invocation
given by Councilman Jones.
Minutes of the last regular meeting were approved as written by motion
made by Mr. Claussen, seconded by Mr. Miller and passed unanimously.
On behalf of the Village Council, Mayor Clement presented a watch
to Lt. J. N. Cliatt, Jr. , as a token of appreciation and commendation for his
30 years' service with Miami Shores Village.
Mrs. Charles Durand of the Girl Scout Council of Tropical Florida,
read a certificate of appreciation which she presented to the Village Council
in recognition of the support and cooperation of the people of Miami Shores to
the Girl Scouts.
After a review of the current bills Mr. Saxon moved that they be
approved. Motion was seconded by Mr. Jones and passed unanimously.
At the last Planning Board meeting approval was recommended for
a permit to build on Lots 1 and 2, Block 5, Navarro Subdivision, which is an
isolated vacant plot having a frontage of 57. 5 ft. on Miami Ave, at N. W. 99th St.

Mr. Jones moved that the Council uphold the action of the Planning Board.
Motion was seconded by Mr. Saxon and passed unanimously.
Unfinished Business: Concerning the request made by the PTA for
paving in front of the Miami Shores Elementary School, Mr. McCall reported that
bids were being secured for this paving and he explained what portion of the
parkway would be paved and drained.
The Chief of Police reported that the Biscayne Kennel Club wants to
put on another Miami Shores night at the track and they wanted to know the most
convenient night. Mr. Saxon suggested Monday.
Unfinished Business: Concerning the purchase of electric carts,
Mr. Miller moved that we buy ten Cushman carts at $795. 00 each. Motion was
seconded by Mr. Saxon and passed 4/1 with Mr. Clement dissenting. (The
Cushman price was low at $810. 00 each with umbrellas. )
It was requested that the Council approve the expenditure of $530. 86
for hosting the Police Chiefs Association in September, which was approved by
motion made by Mr. Miller, seconded by Mr. Claussen and passed unanimously.
Unfinished Business: In regard to the Metropolitan Court use of the
Council chambers, Mr. Claussen moved that the Village Manager be instructed
to negotiate with the Metropolitan Court committee to see what arrangements can
be made toward securing financial compensation for making available facilities
to hold court in Miami Shores Village. Motion was seconded by Mr. Miller and
passed unanimously.
The meeting was adjourned at 4:20 P. M.
