SPECIAL MEETING
MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL
September 23, 1964
A special meeting of the Village Council was held on September
23, 1964, following the Equalization Board meeting, for the purpose of
adopting the budget for the fiscal year beginning October 1, 1964. The
following Councilmen were present:
Mayor Ray L. Clement
Elwood Jones
Dean R. Claussen
Dale Miller
Absent: John F. Saxon
The first item of business concerned the personnel of the auto
inspection stations. The Village Manager recommended that we continue
as is until we can do further study of this operation. Mr. Claussen then
moved that we transfer some of the money from the Contingency back to
the Inspection Stations and employ two new girls with the thought that we
will continue to check this operation for improvement if we can find it.
Motion was seconded by Mr. Miller and passed unanimously.
In regard to the report of numerous burglaries, Mr. Claussen
asked for a monthly report of break-ins and entries.
The Village Manager read a proposed ordinance to adopt the
budget and final tax roll and upon motion made by Mr. Miller, seconded
by Mr. Jones, ORDINANCE NO. 318 was unanimously passed and adopted,
same being entitled:
AN ORDINANCE ADOPTING THE ANNUAL BUDGET FOR
THE FISCAL YEAR BEGINNING OCT OBER 1, 1963;
ADOPTING THE FINAL TAX ASSESSMENT ROLL AND
FIXING THE 1964 TAX LEVY OF MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE.

The next business was to confirm the gas contract for the
Country Club. Mr. Jones moved that it be given to Public Gas Company,
because they were the only company who bid on Vulcan equipment. Motion
was seconded by Mr. Miller and passed unanimously.
The agreement with Mr. Wes Dunaway to provide interior
decoration of the patio room, breezeway and lobby of the Country Club was
approved by motion made by Mr. Jones, seconded by Mr. Clement and
passed unanimously.
The Village Manager reported that the Federal government had
proclaimed this area a disaster relief area and asked the Council to decide
whether or not the Village should make a claim for hurricane clean-up
expenses. After some discussion Mr. Claussen moved that the Council
instruct the Village Manager to fill out the necessary forms to apply for
hurricane relief from the Federal government. Motion was seconded by Mr.
Miller and passed 3/1 with Mr. Clement strongly opposed to this action.
Concerning the Village Manager's attendance at the International
City Managers conference in Chicago, Mr. Claussen moved that it be approved.
Motion was seconded by Mr. Jones and passed unanimously.
The meeting adjourned at 8:55 P. M.
