09-03-1963 Regular Meeting 56 REGULAR MEETING MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL September 3, 1963 A regular meeting of the Miami Shores Village Council was held at 4:00 o'clock P.M. , September 3, 1963, at the Village Hall, with the following Councilmen present: Mayor Ray L. Clement Elwood Jones Dean R. Claussen John F. Saxon Dale Miller, Jr. Absent: None Mr. Thomas H. Anderson, Village Attorney, was also present. The meeting was opened by Mayor Clement followed by an invocation given by Father DeBevoise of St. Rose of Lima Church. Minutes of the last regular meeting of July 16th were approved as written by motion made by Mr. Jones, seconded by Mr. Saxon and passed unanimously. Did not wish to bid Mr. Miller moved that the low bid be accepted. Motion was seconded by Mr. Jones and passed unanimously. 9/3/63 The following bids were received for air conditioning the front room at the Community House: HILL YORK CORP. $440. 86 York - 32, 000 BTU PROUD & CO. 442. 80 Chrysler - 32, 000 BTU COLLINS APPLIANCES, INC. 479. 95 Friedrich - 25, 300 BTU MAJDR BRANDS 496. 00 Admiral - 28, 000 BTU 495. 00 Fedders - 28, 000 " 479. 95 Friedrich - 25, 300 " 557. 00 Chrysler - 32, 000 " DICK TURPIN 732. 05 Friedrich - 31, 000 " Mr. Saxon moved that the bids be turned over to the Village Manager to analyze price and performance as well as service and award it to the one he fe:el.s is best. Motion died for lack of a second. After some discussion and because of the fact that the summer season is almost over, Mr. Claussen moved that the Council take no action on the installation of air conditioning at the Community House at this time. Motion was seconded by Mr. Saxon and passed unanimously. The following bids were received for the painting of the outside of the City Hall: CLIFFORD CROSBY $ 997.40 TOUBY PAINTING CORP. 1687. 00 V. W. POPE 854. 00 The Building Inspector could not recommend Mr. Pope inasmuch as he seemed disinterested in making the bid. Therefore, Mr. Miller moved that the Council accept the Brosby bid with the stipulation that the work be done November lst or later. Motion was seconded by Mr. Saxon and passed unanimously. A letter was received from the Brockway-Miller-Lyon American Legion Post asking that Miami Shores adopt an ordinance requiring the 9/3/63 -3- labeling of Communist imports. Dr. Jerome D. Harold of the Legion Post, explained the background and purpose of this ordinance. After some discussion, Mr. Claussen moved that the City Attorney be instructed to prepare such an ordinance. Motion was seconded by Mr. Saxon and passed unanimously. After a review of the bills for the months of July and August, Mr. Miller moved that they be approved. Motion was seconded by Mr. Jones and passed unanimously. The Village Manager announced that the Florida League of Municipalities will hold its annual convention in Tampa, on October 27, 28 and 29th. Mr. McCall stated that reservations should be made for those wishing to attend. Mr. Saxon moved that the Village pay expenses of the Village Manager, Village Attorney, Mayor, and Councilmen Claussen and Jones to attend the Florida League of Municipalities convention at Tampa.
