REGULAR MEETING
MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL
February 19, 1963
A regular meeting of the Miami Shores Village Council was held
at 4:00 o'clock P.M. , February 19, 1963, at the Village Hall, with the
following Councilmen present:
Mayor Dale Miller, Jr.
John F. Saxon
Dean R. Claussen
Spencer W. Rudnick
Joseph H. Walker
Absent: None
Mr. Thomas H. Anderson, Village Attorney, was also present.
Upon motion made by Mr. Rudnick and seconded by Mr. Saxon,
minutes of the last meeting were approved as written.
The Village Manager introduced a discussion of consideration of
the use of the County registration books for municipal elections. Mr. McCall
reported that a resolution must be passed by the city in an odd year for this
purpose and this will require the County to arrange our precincts according
to our municipal boundaries. Mr. Walker moved that the Council request
the City Manager to proceed with those steps necessary to explore this matter
further and prepare the necessary resolution to proceed if the Council at its next
meeting or a subsequent meeting is amenable to proceeding with this.plan.
Motion was seconded by Mr. Rudnick and passed unanimously.
The Village Manager reported receiving a letter from a retired
minister not living in Miami Shores who requested golf playing privileges at
the Club. After some discussion, Mr. Claussen moved that courtesy cards

should be issued only to ministers or clergy that are living in Miami Shores
or serving in a church in Miami Shores. Motion was seconded by Mr. Saxon.
Mr. Walker pointed out that this still did not limit the City Manager from
using his judgement at other times. The motion was then passed unanimously.
The Village Manager reported that the County is considering an
ordinance authorizing municipalities to adopt and enforce additional dog control
regulations.
The Village Manager reported that the Village Attorney is preparing
an ordinance to create better control over handbill distributors and magazine
salesmen.
The Village Manager reported that one of the local garden clubs is
planning to beautify the strip of land south of the Community House abutting
the sidewalk along 96th Street on an oriental theme with a stone Buddha, and
requested approval for the use of not to exceed $300. 00 of the landscape budget
for this purpose. Mr. Claussen pointed out that some setback should be observed
from the sidewalk to eliminate hazards to bicycles. Mr. Walker moved that
the Council approve the expenditure as recommended by the Village Manager,
bearing in mind setbacks from the sidewalk. Motion was seconded by Mr. Saxon
and passed unanimously. Mr. Walker mentioned that the use of a Buddha in
this area might be criticized.
On the unfinished business concerning the topographical survey of
the nursery land, Mr. Walker stated that he and the Village Manager had gone
over this property and felt that in the long run a survey would be needed. Mr.
Claussen suggested appointing a committee with Mr. Walker as head and

find out what arrangements could be made for riding facilities. It was
decided that the Building Inspector would make the survey.
Mrs. Mary Fowler of 688 N. E. 101st St. , stated that children
are tearing down the rock wall on 101st St. and have taken down a sign.
The meeting adjourned at 4:35 P.M.
