REGULAR MEETING
MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL
May 15, 1962
A regular meeting of the Miami Shores Village Council was held'
at 4:00 o'clock P.M. , May 15, 1962, at the Village Hall, with the following
Councilmen present:
Mayor Dale Miller
John F. Saxon
Dean R. Claussen
Spencer W. Rudnick
Absent: Joseph H. Walker
Mr. Thomas H. Anderson, Village Attorney, was absent.
Minutes of the last meeting were approved as written by motion
made by Mr. Rudnick, seconded by Mr. Claussen and passed unanimously.
The Planning Board minutes were considered and it was determined
no action by the Council was required.
A proposal was made by the Village Manager to purchase an air
compressor for the Parks and Street Maintenance Departments. The compressor
with tools and sand blasting outfit will cost, $6, 238.00. The Village Manager
reported that there is $9, 570. 00 in the contingency fund and a $23, 000. 00
carry over from last year. Mr. Claussen moved that the Council authorize
the purchase of this equipment as outlined. Motion was seconded by Mr.
Rudnick and passed unanimously.
A proposal was made by the Village Manager to pave and drain
the parkway in front of the elementary school. Mr. McCall was instructed
to explore this further and bring plans and estimates to the next meeting.

The Village Manager asked the Council to set a date for an informal
conference to discuss some policies concerning the upcoming budget. Mr.
McCall explained that the library is requesting more money, there is a
request for longevity pay and that the Village pay hospitalization for all
employees. In order to provide more money per mill, .Mr. McCall suggested
that the Council consider a 5 or 10% increase in real estate assessments
with a possible reduction in the milla.ge. This conference was set for June
19th following the regular Council meeting.
Concerning Mr. Harry Swan's request for action on rebuilding the
curb at 6th Ave. and Grand Concourse, the Village Manager reported that
the Metro Public Works design engineer is working on a proposal to rebuild
the curbs on the four corners at this location and is including in the project
paving areas for bus stops along 6th Ave.
The Village Manager gave a report on his attendance at the
City Managers Short Course in Gainesville.
Concerning the unfinished business of shuffleboard courts,
Mr. Cla.ussen stated that his committee had met and are stud:�ing and
analyzing courts and he felt by the next Council meeting they would be in
a position to make a report on location, what facilities are needed and
approximate cost.
The Village Manager stated that Mr. Walker had again asked
that the Council consider the purchase of the land north of the Country
Club and use this location for the shuffleboard courts. The Council

instructed the Village Manager to ask three qualified real estate brokers
to make an appraisal of this land for the Village, without charge, to be
used as a guide for further consideration of its purchase.
