03-21-1961 Regular Meeting REGULAR MEETING MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL March 21, 1961 A regular meeting of the Miami Shores Village Council was held at 4:00 o'clock P. M. , March 21, 1961, at the Village Hall, with the follow- ing Councilmen present: Mayor Dean R. Cla.us s en Spencer W. Rudnick Joseph H. Walker Absent: Michael J. Franco John F. Saxon The Village Attorney was also absent, being out of town. Minutes of the last meeting were approved as written by motion made by Mr. Rudnick, seconded by Mr. Walker and passed unanimously. A letter was received from the Internal Revenue Service, Washington, D. C. , advising the Village that they intended to maintain their position that the Country Club dues are liable to the 20% excise tax but that a hearing will be afforded in Washington on any day they are advised the Village repre- sentative will appear. The Village Manager reported that Mr. Anderson had suggested that the Council leave the matter of what to do from now on in this matter up to himself, Mr. Hemmings of Ring, Mahony & Arner, and the Village Manager, as to whether or not to go to Washington. Mr. Anderson also suggested an alternative of having one member pay the tax and then file suit for a refund. Mayor Claussen suggested contacting our representatives in Washington. The Council instructed that Messrs. Anderson, Hemmings and McCall decide the best move and then return with a recommendation to _++1 3/21/61 -2- the Council as to the best course of action, at which time a special meeting will be called if necessary. The unfinished business of drainage in Miami Shores Estates was next discussed. It was finally decided to ask an engineer from Rader & Associates to attend the next meeting to talk to the Council about the problem. 96th Street traffic - the Village Manager reported that he hasntt prepared a resolution to the County pending settlement of moving the dog track buses from this street. Regulations concerning construction hours - to be removed from the agenda. Hurricane shutter bids - the following were received: PROTECTU $1660 - City Hall JONES 1946 11 If PROTECTU 1485 - Library JONES 1434 " The Council suggested asking the bidders for new bids and present a sample of their products. Mayor Claussen announced that Miami Shores Night at the Biscayne Kennel Club will be held on April 14th. The meeting adjourned at 4:55 P. M.
