REGULAR MEETING
MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL.
September 20, 1960
A regular meeting of the Miami Shores Village Council was held
at 4:00 o'clock P.M. , September 20, 1960, at the Village Hall, with the
following Councilmen present:
Mayor Dean R. Claussen
Spencer W. Rudnick
John F. Saxon
Absents Michael J. Franco
Joseph H. Walker
Mr. Herbert Nadeau attended in the absence of Mr. Anderson,
Village Attorney.
Minutes of the last regular meeting were approved as written by
motion made by Mr. Saxon, seconded by Mr. Rudnick and passed.
The first business was the opening of Police car bids which were
as follows:

After some discussion Mr. Saxon stated, 1°Based on the recommenda-
tion of the Village Manager and the Chief of Police, I move'that the low bid
of Spitzer Motors be accepted." Motion was seconded by Mr. Rudnick and
passed unanimously.

Mr. Rudnick moved that the Village Manager analyze the bids and
award contract to the lowest bidder. Motion was seconded by Mr. Saxon and
passed unanimously.
A resolution was read by the Village Manager authorizing the
issuance of a Certificate of Indebtedness (also read) in the amount of $30, 000
to the Peoples National Bank of Miami Shores, pledging power franchise revenue,
for a loan to cover cost of making two additions to the Library and installing
air conditioning. After discussion Mr. Saxon moved approval of RESOLUTION
NO. 409. Motion was seconded by Mr. Rudnick and passed unanimously.
On recommendation of the Library Board to accept the low bid on
Units A & B outlined in the plans drawn by Edwin T. Reeder, Mr. Rudnick
moved that the contract be granted to Hoefle Construction Co. and that a

performance bond be required. Motion was seconded by Mr. Saxon and
passed unanimously.
The Board also recommended acceptance of the low bid on 15 tons
of air conditioning. Mr. Rudnick moved approval of the low bid of Sam Hamilton
subject to Mr. Reederls confirmation of this bid as well as a performance
bond if deemed necessary by Mr. Reeder. Motion was seconded by Mr.
Saxon and passed unanimously.
A resolution was read commending Shirley Anne Stobs on ginning
a gold medal award in the swimming events at the Olympics recently held:
in Rome, Italy. Upon motion made by Mr. Saxon, seconded by Mr. Rudnick
this resolution was unanimously passed.
The Village Manager made a report on the cost of the hurricane
cleanup, estimated to be about $6, 000 for overtime and extra labor. The
Mayor asked that a special hurricane report be made to the Villagers. A letter
from Sheriff Kelly was read in which cities were advised that funds could be
secured from the Federal Government for payment of hurricane damage,
repairs and cleanup. The Village Manager was instructed to look into this.
Mr. Saxon moved-that the Village Manager and his staff be commended for
the excellent work done in the hurricane cleanup. Motion was seconded by
Mr. Rudnick and passed unanimously.
A bill was received from the Dade County League of Municipalitie-s
for 1961 dues in the amount of $391.00. At the time the budget was prepared
it was felt the dues would be reduced this year and therefore only $275. 00
was budgeted for this purpose. Mr. Saxon moved that this bill be approved.

Motion was seconded by Mr. Rudnick and passed unanimously.
Concerning the Dade League meeting to be held next Wednesday,
September 28th, the following Councilmen stated they would attend with
their wives: Messrs. Claus s en, Rudnick and Saxon.
The Village Manager reported on receipt of letters from our
Congressmen concerning the proposed Federal taxation of municipal bond
interest.
The Council was reminded of the Police Chiefs' dinner at the
Country Club on Friday evening, September 23rd.
The Village Manager reported that he had tried to contact Bob
Blue to get up specifications on the tennis courts but that he has been out of
town.
Concerning the plan to acquire some off-street parking lots,
Mr. McCall reported that the doctors owning the lots on 96th Street are
holding the matter up but that they probably will have a decision this week.
The meeting adjourned at 5:25 P.M.
