April 2, 1957
0
A regular meeting of the Miami Shores Village Council was held
at 4:00 o'clock P. M. , April 2, 1957, at the Village Hall, with the following
Councilmen present:
Mayor Dean R. Claussen
Michael J. Franco
M. E. Reynolds
S. D. Phillips, Jr.
Absent: William E. Carpenter
Mr. Nadeau attended in the absence of Mr. Anderson, Village
Attorney.
Minutes of the last regular meeting were approved as written
by motion made by Mr. Franco, seconded by Mr. Reynolds and passed
unanimously.
The first business to be considered was approval of the replat
of Tract "C" of Miami Shores Bay Park Estates. Discussion arose concern-
ing the beautification of a small park shown at the end of 103rd St. The Council
agreed that the developer should furnish water to this area and landscape it,
with the Village to maintain it and pay the water bill. Upon motion made by
Mr. Phillips, seconded by Mr. Reynolds, RESOLUTION NO. 366 was passed
approving this plat with requirements for street paving, landscaping and an
irrigation system.
In order to make Lots 17 and 18 of Canaday Extension accessible
to a street, it was requested that the Council accept a street dedication of a
20 ft. strip between Lots 8, 9, 11 & 12 of Miami Shores Manor. Mr. Reynolds

moved that the Village accept the dedication for street purposes in the
following location: the north ten feet of Lots 9 and 12 and the south ten feet
of Lots 8 and 11, in Miami Shores Manor Subdivision. Motion was seconded by
Mr. Franco and passed by three votes with Mr. Phillips declining to vote.
A committee from the Baptist Church was present to discuss plans
for paving, draining and landscaping their parkways. Rev. Floyd Folsom
stated the church is willing to pay for plantings, curbing and paving if the
Village will pay for two drains which it was estimated, would cost about $2, 000.
Mr. Reynolds moved that the request of the Baptist Church be approved in
connection with installation of French drains in accordance with the plan as
submitted in the engineer's report and that the Village Manager be instructed
not to spend in excess of $2500, that the funds be deducted from either the
street paving budget if sufficient, or from the Contingency Fund. Motion was
seconded by Mr. Phillips and passed unanimously.
After a review of the current bills, Mr. Franco moved that they
be approved. Mr. Phillips seconded the motion and it was unanimously passed.
Concerning the N. W. 2nd Avenue parkway, Mr. Phillips stated
y that inasmuch as the Village is considering its beautification, he moved to
rescind the action of the meeting of March 5, 1957 in regard to the paving of
the center parkway in N. W. 2nd Avenue. Mr. Reynolds seconded the motion
and it was passed unanimously.
Mr.. Phillips then moved that the disposition of the item shown on
the agenda as "Little Theater Group" be placed in the hands of the City Manager
and that the City Manager be directed to work out satisfactorily to all interests
