REGULAR MEETING
MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL
February 19, 1957
A regular meeting of the Miami Shores Village Council was held at
4:00 o'clock P.M. , February 19, 1957, at the Village Hall, with the followag
Councilmen present:
Mayor Dean R. Claussen
M. E. Reynolds
Michael J. Franco
S. D. Phillips, Jr.
Mr. Thomas H. Anderson, Village Attorney, was also present.
Minutes of the last regular meeting were approved as written by
motion made by Mr. Phillips, seconded by Mr. Reynolds and passed.
Several members of the Little Theater group were present to petition
the Council for the privilege of continuing to hold their functions at the Country
Club. Mr. Vincent Vuturo spoke in their behalf and stated that they have been
operating since 1950 and now have about 95 members, a third of which are
residents of Miami Shores with the control of the Board of Directors resting with
the Village members. He stated that they need about six nights during the year
which they had been told they could no longer have because of the new setup at
the Club. The Council decided to have a special meeting with the Committee
Chairmen at the Club before taking any action.
The next item of business was Mr. Morton Schoenfeld's application for
permit to operate four additional cabs. The original certificate in the name of
White Cab Company permits the operation of six cabs only. Mr. Coleman of the
Miami Shores Cab Company (the other cab company in the Village) had been notified
of this hearing and stated he had no objection to this permit for more cabs pro-
viding the Village issued him the same number. Mr. Phillips then moved that
2/19/57
we grant the White Cab Company and the Miami Shores Cab Company a permit
for four additional cabs in accordance with their request, making a total of
ten each. The motion was seconded by Mr. Reynolds and passed unanimously.
The Village Manager reported that he had received bids for the paving
of the center parkway on N. W. 2nd Avenue as follows:
Weekley Paving Co. $8,400
Ward Paving Co. 7, 000
Brooks Paving Co. 69754
O. W. Collins had previously quoted a price of $13,000. Mr. McCall
reported that we have $8000 in the street fund but have promised about $3500
for raising N. W. 97th Street, leaving $4500 in this fund. There is about $7000
in the Contingent fund. This item was tabled until the Council has an opportunity
to view the street and will be brought up again at the next Council meeting.
The Village Manager recommended the adoption of the Uniform Traffic
Ordinance, "against", he stated, 'the wishes of the Attorney and the Chief of
Police. " He contended that he could be amended at a later date, if necessary.
After a lengthy discussion, the Council asked the Attorney to meet with them
some evening to go over this in more detail.
The meeting adjourned at 5:15 P.M.
