REGULAR MEETING
MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL
November 20, 1956
A regular meeting of the Miami Shares Village Council was held
at 4:00 o'clock P.M. , November 20, 1956, at the Village Hall, with the follow-
ing Councilmen present:
Mayor Dean R. Claussen
Michael J. Franco
William E. Carpenter
S. D. Phillips, Jr.
Absent: M. K. Reynolds
Mr. Thomas H. Anderson, Village Attorney, was also present.
Minutes of the last regular meeting were approved as written by
motion made by Mr. Franco, seconded by Mr. Carpenter and passed unanimously.
The first business was a petition made by Mr. Craig Burton to reduce
the assessment on his property north of Biscayne Canal running to the Bay which
comprises 7. 5 acres. The land is currently assessed at $70, 000 and is zoned for
Apartment use. By comparing the ratio between the assessments on other apart-
ment property and residential property, this assessment appeared too high and the
Council told Mr. Burton they would take it under advisement and let him know.
A letter was received from 12 property owners on N. W. 109th Street
petitioning the Council to take further action to beautify the parkway which had been
previously promised to these people. The letter was taken under advisement.
Concerning the unfinished business .of the Country Club operation, the
Village Manager reported that he was preparing .a resolution which would be ready
for discussion in a few days. The Council scheduled a meeting with the General
Chairman of the Club and his committee, to be held Tuesday evening at 7:10 in the

City Hall. The Village Manager was instructed to inform Mr. MacCory that the
Council could not attend his meeting because of the other meeting which takes
precedence.
In regard to the sign for the Puritan Milk Co. to be erected at 8995
Biscayne Blvd. approved by the Planning Board, after reviewing the location, Mr.
Phillips moved that it be approved. The motion was seconded by Mr. Carpenter
and passed unanimously.
In discussing Mrs. Hanley's petition to separate a 50 ft.- lot at 10080
N. Miami Avenue, the Council felt that no exception could be made to the zoning
law at this location. Mr. Carpenter moved that the petition be denied. The
motion was seconded by Mr. Phillips and passed unanimously.
Acting on Mr. Burton's request for re-assessment, Mr. Carpenter
moved that this land be assessed at $6,000 an acre. The motion was seconded
by Mr. Phillips and passed unanimously.
Mr. Phillips reported .on having submitted data to an insurance company
to sec if they could offer a better pension plan,for the money involved and was in-
formed that they could not beat this plan nor could they offer anything equal to it.
Mr.. Richard Satchell of the Miami Shores Kiwanis Club, presented a
sketch of a Kiwanis church sign they would like to erect at 95th St. and N.W. 3rd
Ave. , 96th St. and Biscayne Blvd. , Biscayne Blvd. and the Canal, and Miami .Avenue
and 115th St. The Council took this request under advisement.
The meeting adjourned at 4:45 P.M. _
