September 18, 1956
A regular meeting of the Miami Shores Vill4ge .Council was held at
4:00 o'clock P. M. , September 18, 1956, at the Village Hall with the following
Councilmen present:
Mayor Dean R. Claussen
Michael J. Franco
M. E. Reynolds
William E. Carpenter
S. D. Phillips, Jr.
Mr. Thomas H. Anderson, Village Attorney, was also present.
Minutes of the last regular meeting were adopted as written upon
motion made by Mr. Reynolds, seconded by Mr. Franco and passed unanimously.
Proposals for electric golf cars for the Golf Course were opened
with the following submitting proposals on forms prepared in the Village office:
Pargo Inc. , George R. Smith,
Golf Enterprises
Robert L. Ahern & Assoc. , Inc.
Sam Walderman
A tabulation of said proposals is attached to and made a part of these minutes.
The proposals were taken under consideration.
The next business was the presentation of Resolution #359 for the
financing of two garbage trucks and bodies at a cost of $22, 874. 12, to be
financed by the Peoples National Bank at an interest rate of 3-1127. Mr.
Reynolds moved that the resolution be adopted. The motion was seconded by
Mr. Carpenter and passed unanimously.
Regarding a letter from Col. A. B. -Jones concerning improvement
of navigation at Bakers Haulover, the Council recommended that the Village

Engineer attend a hearing to be held by the Corps of Engineers, U.S. Army,
on October 3, ,1956.
Upon motion made by Mr. Reynolds and seconded by Mr. Phillips,
the appointment of Col. Thomas F. Burke to the Miami Shores Village Planning
Board was unanimously approved.
The Village Manager was instructed to investigate the truck
regulation problem and report to the Counbil at the next meeting..
Mr. Carpenter moved that the Council approve payment to Hugh R.
Pomeroy, of a fee of $1000. 00, if necessary, in the re-trial -of the Boulevard
Zoning case. Motion was seconded by Mr. Franco and passed unanimously.
The Council received a letter from the Central and Southern Florida
Flood Control District, offering $Z0, 000. 00 for a 2-acre strip of nursery land
along Little River Canal for widening purposes. This will destroy one half the
Police Pistol Range.. The Council instructed the Village Manager to negotiate
further and attempt to get title for the Village to a.11 spoil taken from. the widening
project along the remaining abutting nursery land.
The Council decided that at the next regular meeting a date for
election on Miami Shores Village Employees Pension Plan will be set.
Iu reference to the petition asking the Council to oppose a dam on
Biscayne Canal on the golf course, Mr. Rep olds reported that he had written
a letter to Mr.;Earl Rader, who in turn referred him to Mr. David Lee,
Engineer for the State Board of Health, for answers to questions regarding this
dam, but had not yet received answer from Mr. Lee, and no .action was taken.
