12-20-1955 Regular Meeting 18
REGULAR MEETING
MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL
December 20, 1955
A regular meeting of the Miami Shores Village Council was held
at 4:00 o'clock P. M. , December 20, 1955, at the Village Hall, with the
following Councilmen present:
Mayor Dean R. Claussen
Michael J. Franco
S. D. Phillips, Jr.
Absent: M. E. Reynolds
William E. Carpenter
Mr. Thomas H. Anderson, Village Attorney, was also present.
Upon motion made by Mr. Phillips, and seconded by Mr. Franco,
minutes of the last regular meeting were unanimously approved as written.
A resolution was read by the Village Manager concerning Miami
Shores taxi cabs picking up passengers at the International Airport. Mr.
McCall explained that this had been brought up at the request of one of the
cab companies. After some discussion, Mayor Claussen asked that this
be taken under advisement.
At the last Planning Board meeting, approval was recommended
for the issuance of a permit to Dan Crane to build on a 50 ft. lot, as follows -
Lot 15, Block 9, Miami Shores Subdivision. Approval was granted for permit
upon motion made by Mr. Phillips, seconded by Mr. Franco and passed
unanimously.
The next item was a discussion of the request to beautify the park
at the end of 101st Street near the Bay. The Village Manager reported that

Glen Byrd is planting shrubbery on the point, that the property owners have
put in the sprinkler system and the sod and would like the Village to maintain
it and pay for the water. One of the Villagers voiced the opinion that there
were other spots in the Village that needed beautification more than this one.
Mr. Franco stated that he did not want to enter into this discussion but added
that he felt if the Village accepts a dedicated piece of land, then we should
take care of it or do not accept it. No action was taken.
Mr. Phillips brought up the subject of the need for more street
lights at the alleys on the west side of 2nd Avenue and moved that we install
a light on the south side of 97th St. at the inter-section of the alley, south side
of 98th St. at the alley and the south side of 99th St. at the alley. Motion was
seconded by Mr. Franco and passed unanimously.
Mayor Claussen introduced our new Village Engineer, Mr. Clyde
M. Read.
The meeting adjourned at 5:50 P. M.
