REGULAR MEETING
MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL
July 5, 1955
A regular meeting of the Miami Shores Village Council was
held at 4:00 o'clock P. M. , July 5, 1955, at the Village Hall, with the
following Councilmen present:
Mayor Dean R. Claussen
Michael J. Franco
M. E. Reynolds
S. D. Phillips, Jr.
Absent: William E. Carpenter
Mr. Thomas H. Anderson, Village Attorney, was absent.
Minutes of the last meeting were adopted as written upon motion
made by Mr. Reynolds, seconded by Mr. Phillips and unanimously passed.
The first business on the agenda was consideration of an inquiry
made by Pickin' Chicken to install an automatic golf practice machine at
their drive-in restaurant. Since no written request was made nor anyone
present to explain the details, location, etc. of this device, it was tabled
pending more information.
A City of Miami ordinance was read concerning the sale of'deadly
weapons to minors under 17 years of age which Mr. Reynolds stated he would
discuss with Marvin Gunn and report back. Instructions were given to put
this on the agenda for the next meeting.
Mr. O. B. Simmons, attorney, was again present concerning the
unfinished business of request for another sign for the Peoples National Bank
Building. Discussion followed concerning the number of signs now on the

parking lot, as well as, the length of time the signs are left burning, which
the Council asked the Village Manager to take up with Mr. Stafford at the Bank.
Mr. Phillips then moved that the plan as submitted by the Peoples National Bank
for the sign on N. E. 2nd Avenue be approved. Motion was seconded by Mr.
Franco and passed unanimously.
A proposed ordinance authorizing a mutual aid agreement with the
Dade County Defense Council was read by the Village Manager. Upon motion
made by Mr. Phillips and seconded by Mr. Reynolds, ORDINANCE NO. 265
was unanimously passed and adopted, same being entitled:
AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE
TO ENTER INTO THE COUNTY-WIDE MUTUAL AID PLAN
IN AND FOR DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA AND SETTING
FORTH THE DUTIES OF THE AFFECTED DEPARTMENTS.
After a review of the bills, they were approved by motion made by
Mr. Franco, seconded by Mr. Phillips and passed unanimously.
Concerning the air conditioning of the terrace room at the Country
Club, Mr. McCall reported that Dudley Cawthon will present new figures on
the discussed changes and on a 30 ton unit.
The Council was advised that the annual meeting of the Dade County
League of Municipalities will be held at the Miami Shores Country Club on July
15th, at 7:30 P. M. , and the importance of attending this meeting was stressed.
The meeting was adjourned at 5:35 P. M.
