MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL
July 22, 1954
The Miami whores Village Council, sitting as an Equalization
Board, ,met on the night of July 22, at 7:30 P.M., in the Village Hall,
with the following Councilmen present:
w Mayor S. D. Phillips, Jr.
M. E. Reynolds
William E. Carpenter
Michael J. Franco
Dean R. Claussen
Absent: None
The Tax Department presented figures that indicated Mrs. Soto's
home at 10740 N. E. 2nd Avenue, had been re-cubed at 15, 380 cu. ft. ,
making a tax value of $7, 690. Figuring 1016 depreciation for five years,
resulted in a net assessment of $6921. It is presently on the books at $6600.
The Council instructed that na change be made this year but that all
property in this Subdivision should be re-assessed next year.
Mr. Silbernagel and Mr. Pitman of Tropical Chevrolet, 8880
Biscayne Blvd. , appeared at the meeting to request a postponement of the
hearing.on their land assessments until Mr. Bradshaw returns to the city
on August 5th. The Mayor explained that this could not be granted and they
therefore, presented their claim that the land on 5th Court,- Block 22, was
assessed too high, - $40, 822, when it had been assessed two years ago
at $9200; also, because the County assessment on this property is $6650.
It was explained that this land had been under-assessed for many years

and that a qualified committee of assessors had placed the value on that
block and the Council felt it was fair and equitable. No action was taken.
The meeting adjourned at 8:10 P.M.
