06-01-1954 Regular Meeting 91F REGULAR MEETING MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL June 1, 1954 A regular meeting of the Miami Shores Village Council was held at 2:00 o'clock P.M. , .June 1, 1954, at the Village Hall, with the following Councilmen presents Mayor S. D. Phillips, Jr. M. E. Reynolds William E. Carpenter Michael J. Franco Dean R. Claussen Absent: None Mr. Thomas H. Anderson, Village Attorney, was also present. Upon motion made by Mr. Reynolds, seconded by Mr. Claussen and passed unanimously, the minutes of the last regular meeting were approved as written. Mr. Russell N. Edwards of Tech research Foundation appeared before the Council to ask for an extension of time required to set up his garbage disposal plant. He presented a letter indicating that his company now had the necessary financial backing to construct the plant and added that they were negotiating for another piece of ground around six miles from the Village ,hall. He therefore petitioned the Council for an extension of six months' time in the franchise and a limit of 7-12 miles distance from the Village Hall. Mr. Reynolds moved that Ordinance No. 24.3, Section I be' amended, to read: Seven and a half miles instead of five miles and that Section 7 shall extend the time to January 1, 1955. The motion was seconded by Mr. Claussen and passed unanimously. After a review of the current bills, .Mr. Claussen moved that 92 Zpa _2_ 6/l/54 they be approved. Motion was seconded by Mr. Reynolds and passed unanimously. Mayor Phillips then turned the chair over to Mr. Reynolds and moved that the Village Manager be authorized to eater into a contract with the Florida Power and Light Company to turn on all existing Whiteway lights in the Village under the best contract arrangement possible, provided it isn't any higher than the present yearly fee per light, and that the money to pay this increased light cost be taken out of the beautification fund which probably won't be spent between now and the end of the fiscal year. After some dis- cussion as to whether or not more lights are needed in the residential areas, Mr. Phillips amended his motion to cover the lights on Miami ,Avenue and W. K. 2nd Avenue only. Mr. Franco seconded this motion and it was passed unanimously. Mayor Phillips then moved that the Village Manager proceed with a survey to be made by one Councilman, the Chief of Police and himself to determine what additional lights are needed and the best type to use for the affected areas, with an estimate of the cost. Motion was seconded by Mr. Carpenter and passed unanimously. Mr.5 Roper, 147 N. W. I09th St., asked about getting the alley behind her house repaired. Mr. Carpenter moved that Mrs. John Prunty be re-appointed to the Library Board for a period of five years from July 1, 1954. Motion was seconded by Mr. Reynolds and passed unanimously.
