REGULAR MEETING
MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL
February 2, 1954
A regular meeting -of the Village Council of Miami Shores Village,
Florida, was held at 4100 orclock P.M. , February 20- 1954, at the Village
Hall, with the following Councilmen present:
Mayor S. D. Phillips,: Jr.
M. E. Reynolds
William E. Carpenter
Michael J. Franco
Dean R. Claus sen
Absent: None
The Village Attorney was absent.
.Minutes of the last regular meeting were approved as written by
motion.made by Mr. Franco, seconded by Mr. Reynolds and passed unanimously.
The first business to be discussed was in regard to a recently made
survey .of all Village insurance which revealed that there was no liability
coverage on the premises of the City Hall, Library, Community House,
Village Shop and Pistol Range, as well as, parking meter liability. It was
agreed that a binder should be immediately placed to cover this liability,
and that Mr. Pruitt would be invited to meet with the Council at the next
meeting of February 16th to discuss the matter further.
A preliminary report on the expenses involved in having the Doherty
Golf Tournament at Miami Shores was presented along with an estimate of
the revenue taken during the Tournament. The Council asked the Village
Manager and Club Manager to present a final report at the next meeting with
their recommendation as to future tournaments.

After a review of the bills, Mr. Reynolds moved that they be
approved. Motion was seconded by Mr. Claussen and passed unanimously.
Mayor Phillips asked about the status of the re-construction of
the rifle range.
After further discussion of Mrs. Ethel Hauk+s previously made
request to close or undedicate certain unpaved streets in El Portal Sub-
division which abut the railroad tracks, Mr. Claus sen moved we decline
Mrs. Haukrs request to close 89th and 91st Streets. Motion was seconded
by Mr. Reynolds and passed unanimously.
Concerning the Library addition, the Village Manager reported that
he had made some changes in the plans in an effort to bring the cost down
to about $13,000 and submitted his recommendations to the Chairman of the
Board, which recommendations were to be discussed at their Board meeting
on Thursday of this week. The Board is also requested to make a recommend-
ation for a new member on the Board to fill the vacancy that now exists.
Mayor Phillips brought up the fact that we have a landscaping
account of $8,000 from which only $300 has been expended so far and he
would like to give the Village Manager the OK to get some landscape architect
in here to submit a plan of what we need. Mr. Reynolds stated that he would
get in touch with the man he knows for plans and figures. Mr. McCall also
stated he expected to see Milton Link in the near future for this purpose.
The meeting adjourned at 5:45 P.M.
