PUBLIC HEARING
ON
APPLICATION FOR TAXI PERMIT IN MIAMI SHORES
A public hearing was held by the Village Council of Miami Shores
Village, Florida, at 3:00 P. M. on December 1, 1953 at the Village Hall,
for the purpose of hearing testimony pertaining to the issuance of a permit
to operate another taxi cab company in Miami Shores.
The following Councilmen were present:
Mayor S. D. Phillips, Jr.
M. E. Reynolds
William E. Carpenter
Dean R. Claus s en
Absent: Michael J. Franco
The Village Attorney and Village Manager were also present.
The Application for Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity
made by Peter Sclafani of the Checker Cab Co. of North Miami was read by
the Village Manager who stated it complied with the requirements of our
ordinance. Mr. Sclafani reviewed his reasons for claiming there was a
need for more taxi service in Miami Shores and mentioned names of people
who would like to have his service. He also stated his company has the
lowest fares in Dade County and.that competition in the Shores would be
beneficial to the Villagers.
Mr. White, owner of the White Cab Company of Miami Shores, was
present and stated that he had never been notified that the cab service in the
Shores is inadequate. Mr. White also stated that he believed that "cut throat"

competition would lower the standard of service rendered.
Chief Senneff read a report of traffic violations and other charges
against' Peter Sclafani in Miami Shores and other neighboring municipalities,
which Mr. Sclafani explained had been suspended or were explainable to
personal grievances.
Mayor Phillips then announced that this application would be taken
under advisement and Mr. Sclafani would be notified of the Council's
decision in the matter on or before December 16, 1953.
The hearing was adjourned at 3:50 P. M.
