PUBLIC HEARING ON PROPOSED BUDGET 1953-54
MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL
July 21, 1953
The Miami Shores Village Council held a public hearing at the
Miami Shores Country Club at 8:00 P. M. , July 21st, 1953, for the purpose
of reviewing the tentative budget for the fiscal year beginning August 1,
1953. The following Councilmen were present:
Mayor S. D. Phillips, Jr.
M. E. Reynolds
William E. Carpenter
Michael J. Franco
Dean R. Claussen
Absent: None
There were about 43 Villagers present.
Mayor Phillips opened the meeting and explained that the budget
form had been changed this year to correspond with recommended accounting
procedures outlined by the International City Managers Association and
Municipal Finance Officers Association. Mr. Phillips reviewed each page and
explained reasons for any increases in the budgeted items.
Questions were raised by three or four of the taxpayers present
as to why the Police salaries had not been raised. Also a request was made
for more street lights.
In discussing the Country Club budget, the Mayor explained the
plan to take over the operation of the dining room beginning this fiscal year
and that the Council felt the Club Manager could operate it profitably as well

The meeting was adjourned at 9:50 P. M.
