.SPECIAL MEETING
MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL
.September 18, 1952
A special meeting of the Village Council of Miami_Shores Village,
Florida, was held at 2:00 o'clock P. M. , September 18, 1952, at the Miami..
Shores Country Club, with the following Councilmen present:
Mayor M. E. Reynolds
George A. Frix
.Michael J. Franco
William E. Carpenter
S.D. Phillips, Jr.
Absent: None
The Village Manager and Club Manager were also present.
This meeting ,was called for the purpose of discussing;with the
Country Club-Advisory Board the cost of certain improvements being made to
the club house. However, none. of the Board was able to attend.
The Village Manager reviewed a statement prepared by our auditor
which indicated an amount available for these improvements, of $18, 615. 96,
plus an item of $4500 shown in the budget for air conditioning. The estimated
cost of putting a roof over the deck is $12, 000; bar redecorating, labor and
materials - $5, 000, which subtracted from the original amount leaves $1615. 96
plus the $4500 for air conditionin ;,wiring, etc. It was Mr. Frix►s thought that
we should take the $1615 and whatever of the $4500 that is needed, and pay for
the air conditioning in the bar. Then do the rest of the air conditioning in the
spring after the winter profits are in.
It was agreed that while air conditioning the bar, basic provision
should be made for air conditioning the rest of the club house which the Village

Manager stated would include wiring and the wells and he suggested doing as
much .of this work as they can do now.
The Council unanimously agreed to take bids on air conditioning the
bar only at this time, including wells and electric service of sufficient size to
operate the total Club House air conditioning ;when installed.
The Village Manager stated there will also be additional expense
for the work of the engineer and the architect, and in discussing ways of saving
money, Mr. McCall pointed out that the engineer had recommended eliminating
sky lights in the roof. Mr. McCall also stated that the bar estimate of $5,000
included a louvred door between the bar and deck which.they did not need with
air conditioning and it also included a large window. Mr. Smith stated that the
decorator thought the window could be eliminated as it was planned before the
deck roof and it would no longer be very useful with deckfurniture obstructing
the view. However, he stated .Mr. Luce wanted the window left in. After further
discussion, it was the Council's recommendation to the Advisory Board that
this window be eliminated.
The Village Manager reported that the club bank account is getting
low and that it may be necessary to finance the air conditioning -of the bar for
a few months. Mr. Smith described the decorator's plans for remodeling
the bar.
The meeting adjourned at 2:35 P.M.
